56'' bellyboard experiment.
Trying something new after i saw one down the coast, looked like fun. Flying blind, but excited to try it. 4'8'' x 20"nose x 20 3/4" wide x 19" tail x thick!!. I know they're not supposed to be thick, but i like foam, and i want it to have some paddling ability ( though i'll use flippers too ).

Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
Some do, some don't have small fins, right?
Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
Not 100% sure, but im definately putting fins on mine. The one i saw was a thruster/quad setup. The rider was taller and heavier than me, and theirs was 3'9'', but really, im just seeing what happens. if it goes good, i'll do another.
At least the kids can ride it if i can't!!!

Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
P.S im doing mine a twin/single/2+1 setup coz that's what im used to surfing.
Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
Was the one you saw shaped by Muz?
I was talking to a guy at a tweed coast spot who was riding one Muzza shaped him. He seemed to go alright on it too

Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
i love the
i think boogies sometimes lose out on there popout equipment....a little longer could surf way better in some conditions...and be much better for drop knee
but i shouldn't froth over lids surfin...sorry
how dare they not surf exactly like the rest us
beerfan....it looks good....but i got issues with the rails
not being negative....but i think rails are really critical on a bodyboard....
so u might want re think b4 u glass it up
wheres marcus he'd help

Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
You can't say that without telling me what you think is wrong!! Like telling your mate "That chick'll shag anyone", but not saying which one!.
This is a bit of an experiment, and i cut this out of a 6' single fin, so i kept the rails pretty much the same, except i turned them up in the front third of the board so ( hopefully ) it will resist diggin in at the nose. After that they're down through to the tail as you can see.
If this board turns out positive, i'd really consider doing another, though with a bit more research, and probably shorter, but wider. 4'2'' x 23 ??
Will update.

Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
beery, i love your work. open mind and active sanding arms.
but i agree with fong, the rails are probably going to be a challenge. i don't know anything about paipos, bellyboards or anything like that and i'm not a design guru, but i did ride a bodyboard for 15 years
bodyboards typically have really sharp 50-50 60-40 or 70-30 rails. with smoother rails you'd get too much suction and it'd be difficult to change direction, without the leverage of your upright legs. you'll be sitting high in the water, so maybe 50-50 for you, softened in the nose if you want to dropknee, which the outline is probably better for.
i also reckon you have WAY too much foam, one of the reasons i reckon lids can ride waves at all is because they sit low in the water (particularly with flippers and their legs dragging down), where it is easier to pick up the energy of the wave. a big bodyboard is 44 inches, and you have an extra foot of more buoyant material, and greater thickness.
the length is probably going to be a challenge on steeper waves where you are trying to fit the curve of the pocket more.

Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
Decided ( right or wrong! ) to put a big teardrop style concave in it. The deepest part is just in front of centre, right around where most of my weight will be ( im guessing here ).
Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
can you add any longitudinal ? rocker now, or is that done with in the stringer, and now the concave took over?
Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
Not quite sure what you mean daryl. The concave flattens the rocker ( within the concave anyway ), and also provides lift though i am definately no expert.
Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
Yeah, woops. Your concave looks tip to tail already.

Re: 56'' bellyboard experiment.
Budget has shrunk mate!. I might wait and save up, get a blank ( need another keel fish ), and get all the glass and resin at once, and do them both. might be xmas before that happens
