As you all know, hurricane Katrina caused relatively minor damage.I know theres abit of flooding, but why cant they adapt like venice??? Anyway,Im getting off topic here.
As you know,Katrina was a Cat 5. The winds within the eyewall were absolutely incredible. The barometric pressure in the centre dropped to 902hpa,one of the lowest surface pressures ever. The southwestern flank of Katrina briefly passed through our super long range swell window almost 1 week ago,and this will result in a brief 3-4' +inco, but super strong E/NE swell for the north coast of NSW. Some forerunner sets are possible wednesday evening, but we'll definately see a pulsey groundswell by Thursday. New Zealand will hinder Sydneys chances somewhat, but I would still expect the odd refracted 3' set at NE facing reefs such as Dee Why pt.This swell could produce periods of up to 20seconds so beware(kooks especially). The 4 day charts and GFS,indicate a northerly flow at the swells peak,so thats not the ideal scenario. We would rather see SW winds, but early mornings will see a w/nw landbreeze. Swellnet also expects an E/NE swell! Also im expecting a medium to even large southswell for next wed/thurs(14th sept) so keep your eyes out for that.
Katrina - ENE groundswell!!!!!!
