much better news today.

models have backed off on the black nor-easter scenario ....looks like a milder version. But still an enormously unstable northern Tasman/Coral Sea with a broad trough running NE/SW from New Cal to the QLD coast and some kind of low maybe ECL to form within the trough line early next week.

hopefully that trough line just fizzles out and doesn't intensify. a good dose of rain and the banks are left all in tact.

I'm particularly nervous. out the front of Ann's where i surf the most, they've bull dozed two beachfront properties, and are digging out the ground to make way for some 10-story apartments block.

But first they're digging along the beach front and installing a few thousand ton of rocks as a stabiliser for future weather events ... and it's all sand that's coming out to make way for the rocks; and the loader is just waltzing straight down to the water line and dropping it into the shorey. must be a million ton of sand coming out.

and with the soft southerly longshore we've had it's just installing these razor sharp banks all to the direct north of the vacant block.

the thought of losing all that sand before we've had straddie-like peaks here, is a little upsetting.

I don't like this barrage from the east. It will punch holes in the banks.

model one: yes the world will blow up
model two: nah the world will not blow up
model three: ummm I just don't know!

I dunno, in normal years those lows might have been blowing up since mid May. But this year? Been watching 10-12' swells disappear clean off the charts week after week.

winter floods are the worst.

Gloves and booties now.

Saw some mad bastard out the other day at Flinders in a spring suit. Then he opened his mouth to reveal a richly toned pommie accent and it all made sense, Victorian water temps now must be like summer for them.

Had a decent surf on Saturday but no big monster swells yet

The internet tells me that the water temp is 15 degrees in Flinders at the moment. What sort of spastic wears gloves in 15 degree water? It's like wearing a hood when you don't have to. Simply moronic

Gloves and hoods make the surfing experience measurably shitter. Ergo, avoid them for as long as possible. If 15 degrees is your personal cut-off, perhaps surfing isn't for you

What about if I've got chicken pox? Can I wear a hood then if it's over 15?

I'm tactfully skirting the male pattern baldness/hood thing. Perhaps there's a market for lycra sun hoods? Maybe with a realistic, full-head-of-hair design?
