It's a marathon not a sprint, Spring '15

What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

I'm a bit disappointed though , when swellnuts had pm's smucker used to message me often to call me a [email protected], I find personal abuse so intimate.

I can't think of one person who has gone to SA to surf the beasts Schmucker has exposed.

Crowds at Gnarloo have more to do with the FIFO population of WA then general exposure. Anyway Gnarloo sorts itself out, as soon as it hits 6 foot the crowd halves.

Most people paddle into the waves that smucko has been towing into, he's just to fat and scared of sharks so he tows through guys paddling, never use smucko justify any point in an argument, you loose credibility by association. :P

That sounds like something he would say, there's more too it than that.
He and others pissed off enough people at normal surf spots in SA to spur the formation of a group of surfers who saw the writing on the wall if this stuff continued. They did something about it, diplomatically, and the message got across.

Don't know the guy from a bar of soap.

Someone else said distance is a factor. Shipwreck bay in nz is a great example, well known but the 8 hour drive puts a lot of people off.

surfed a thumping keramas last weekend on day with occasional 8 foot sets with a few guys dropping into vey late deep pits and a few broken boards etc....got a couple of smaller ones (say 6ft) there were 10 max out but only 2 to 3 guys were making the heavier inside ledgey ones (it is a pretty fast and hollow take off in these conditions) , however if you were willing you were given right of way, the vibe was good if you had a crack and if you bit it on the reef it was greeted with a wry smile but also an acceptance you were willing and hence would not be burnt.

The next day it dropped to 4 ft and was a fun size but the crowd increased to 25 and was a lot more competitive and a little aggro with some young Balinese. Kind of really framed it up for me. The waves and atmosphere on the bigger day was the most satisfying day of the week (bar getting another apparently croweded East Coast break to our selves that was pretty good)

Steve Shearer is correct. An average spread of 20 people out at Cloudbreak will not be nearly as hard to deal with as an average 20 out at Padang/GLand/Tombstones etc. Seemed to be a prevalence of blokes who would be Sydney weekend surfers back at home over with their families on a tropical holiday. I reckon because it's more expensive the harder core younger crew would rather go to Indo where their money goes further (same season after all). Vibe in the water is good as there's no localism and once it gets bigger than 4 to 5 foot a lot of people out there are just tea bagging. Reckon I've had about 10 surfs out there with about 25 being the most crowded (3 - 4 foot) and one particular morning of 6 foot plus perfection with 7 of us out for over an hour and a half (mid morning) before anyone else paddled out. Big line up and easy to get waves if you've got an act. Winkipop back home here on a good day is waaaaaay harder to jag a set wave than Cloudbreak.

As for these 'forums' being a cause for crowd increases ANYWHERE.....well that's just

I've never heard anyone refer to 'Realsurf' other than the 30 odd blokes on here who thrive on it. Super irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
Wasn't so much what he he was saying on realsurf, but the magazines he proudly told us he was selling too. :-D-:
