Steve. Just wondering if you can answer my question that's been puzzling me over the last few days. Why are the winds the strongest on the N and NE flank of this girl when she has a high cradling her SE flank? Just seems counter intuitive to me?

Because of the very strong MJO signal which is correlated with very strong monsoonal W to NW surge. Not that uncommon.

So the high pressure in the North Pacific is higher than the high pressure over NZ?

But the isobars aren't even closed or as tight on PAMs northern flank so I'm still a little confused?

I was almost gonna go there but then took a punt and ended up South of gong where it wasn't nearly as big nor quite as ugly but had hardly anyone else out.

Seen some other pics of it too from that day. There was a plague of crew on it. Probably 30-40.

Too much of a mindfck trying to contend with the wave itself let alone trying to share it between a full house.

Iggy, that top photo is one of the scariest I've ever seen. The wave face is just a mass of hurt.

I don't surf it that much anymore. It has to be midweek now, if ever.

Over the past few years it's just gotten way too crowded. It packs out too much. Years ago it was manageable .

I've now snapped two boards out there. All due to being caught inside shoulder to shoulder in a tight pack with no room or place to scramble forward before it unloads.

Swimming and clambering your way in after a snapped board when it's breaking like that is no fun at all either.

What a nice autumn day. Surfed the Tweed Coast for the early. Super clean fun waves. About to have a big bacon n eggs breakfast and a coffee. Might try for another surf after the tide change.

They reckon the Pam groundswell, which seems to have arrived, will be very short lived on the GC because Pam raced thru the swell window.

Dunno about those guys. CW has it peaking tomorra at 3-5, after calling today 3-4.
