And why?
Anywhere out of range of the influence of the ocean - so for NSW, anywhere past the dividing range. I mean, somewhere like Bowral or Goulburn definitely have 4 seasons and are probably much like Tasmania. As you go further inland there are still definite seasons, but the transition periods (spring, autumn) are perhaps shorter ie you go from freezing cold to high summer with not much in between.

Sydney is basically summer, then less hot for 6 months, then summer again. Actually, I suppose 'technically' it has seasons; but Sydney and most of the coast has such mild winters that it doesnt feel like there are seasons because you just have warm (winter) then hot ('spring') then hotter (summer) - and the summers arent particularly hot either (see Wagga or Canberra below - Sydney doesnt get as hot nor as cold). Unless you are having sub zero nights, it doesnt feel much different - the minimum 'base' of winter is too warm to make it feel like there is a real change.

Oddly Sydney has as much variation as Hobart over the year, but becuase Hobart's winter is much colder, it feels like there are seasons.

If you can grow bulbs, then you have seasons.

CTD, Bangalow, a few miles from the coast here suffers and suffered many severe night time frosts this July.

Average apparent minimum temps for Ballina were close to zero all through July.

So, put that in your inland theory and smoke it.

FFS 4 pages down and we're still arguing about whether it's spring or not!! Move on people. Tassy has snow in summer. Does that mean it's not summer?

ctd you misunderstood me.
I meant where do you live, and as someone who appears to be interested in surfing, why do you live inland?
I live in Brisbane and get asked the same thing.

agree with don. there is some utterly incomprehensible tard behaviour going on in here.

the pribbling, knotty-pated antics of shearer and swvic over spring, is semi-final standard tarding.

I reckon almost anywhere inland that isnt in the tropics has distinct seasons and usually about 4. Just cos you get to live on the coast and its always warm and pleasant doesnt mean the other 90% of the country doesnt exist...
The thing is, ctd, 90% of Australia's population lives on the coast.

Yeah, ctd, just about everywhere gets extremes. So the odd snow fall in summer is just that; odd

Fcuk up, Braithy. If I want to carry on in a pribbling, knotty-pated manner, I shall. It's one thing to make the semis, but it's another level to win the flag

C'mon, DW, you're a weather guru. Tell us when Spring starts

Lived inland before I got interested in surfing.

True. They should move inland, most of them, it would be much better for the environment (and, yes, there is plenty of water).

Where are you based, and what do you do?

FWIW I agree that most should move inland, but also that many who are inland should then move to the flat productive land on the coastal margin.

They are certainly around and there is a waterway about 2km from me that has produced some cod, but not many recently, to my knowledge, since the carp got in.

But within an hours drive there are a few rivers that promise much and deliver - again - mostly carp. I have caught a couple of pretty small cod over time but dont target them - more trout (if in the right place) or perch (which again generally means carp or sometimes redfin). Salt water fishing is much more productive - at least you want to catch most of the fish that are around.

I think we've progressed far enough in the debate here to acknowledge different parts of the country have different seasonal ranges and timings.

But only unobservant dullards follow the traditional northern hemispheric thinking that you need high lats or cold weather to have four seasons or more.

that's not really correct shep. lots of yrs with sept snow, even oct has had a few dumps.
