Re: Summer 2013-'14
I've been SUPing the river mouth. With the wind and swell its been a little heavy at times.
I surfed y'day for 45 minutes. The wobble kept throwing me and the little light 5'10" all over the place. Thought I snapped it at one point.
But yeah, the most prolonged onshore wind period I can ever remember.

Yeah Trev I feel for you SC surfers. You've had an amazing amount of relentless onshore winds up there this summer.
I was surprised at how long the winds stayed away yesterday morning. I surfed for 2.5 hrs before they came up. Yeah sure it was a little wobbly, but given I'd only surfed twice in the last 2 mths, it was rewarding enough for me.

As fcuken hot as it is right now in Victoria it's interesting to remember that December was a write-off as it was cold and southerly winds prevailed. Like many I was wondering that did the best winter in recent memory (2013) mean the worst summer?
Apparently not, January has been great.
Yesterday was no exception. Could only get out for the early and it was low tide with 1.5mtr swell so that is a right off for the ocean beaches unless you can be fcuked finding a good bank (time is precious so that option is out) so I grabbed the longboard and headed to Flinders and it was pretty damn good. Plenty of waves, great reforms and when the fog cleared nothing but blue sunny skies.

Despite the relentless Nor Easters this year, I don't recall seeing much in the way of bluebottles this year

Same - was talking to a couple of friends down the coast after a surf last week about the lack of blueys, looked down and saw 2 dead ones on the shoreline. "What was that you were saying", they said. Still and all, very few around this season, especially considering the relentless N/E winds.alakaboo wrote:Was thinking the same thing.
Wonder if it's a random anomaly or part of a pattern not recognised?
No blue bottles, abundance of cicadas...
Turtles are the only thing I know that eat bluey's. You know of anything else that eats them Boo? Any enviro considerations impacting on their breeding you know of?
If so, I'm all for it.
A Blue bottle cull would have my full support.
Re: Summer 2013-'14
Glaucus eats them, but a sting from that is worse.
and some crabs eat them I think.
Dunno why they're scarce

Were the pointers to it being something to speak of wrong or misread?
