Too hard to call from here Natho.

Ask again in Jan and we'll see how the storm track/jet stream is shaping up.

Thanks Stevo. As long as Carroll doesn't take all the swell for himself while he is there.

Hope so.
I love watching that thing.
What takes precedence, the Eddie (I assume) or that Red Bull paddle thingy?

ah they just talk and figure it out. Eddie would win in the eyes of the competitors. Peahi can break big on days when Waimea's undersized.

I dunno, looking at the fetch develop it seems not quite right for Eddie, there'll be a lot of swell in the ocean for sure but consistent 20-25' all day? -- typically needs a storm a bit closer with stronger winds. Plus it seems to shift slightly north of Hawaii on approach.

Oops I guess George is of the same mind

QUIKSILVER IN MEMORY OF EDDIE AIKAU
AN OFFICIAL "NO GO" FOR DEC. 30/31

HONOLULU (December 28, 2012) -- Organizers of the QUIKSILVER IN MEMORY OF EDDIE AIKAU big wave invitational have announced that the event is officially a "NO GO" for the upcoming December 30/31 swell.

"What we see is an inconsistent 20-foot swell with peak energy during Sunday night, and dropping after that," said Contest Director George Downing. "We do not foresee the eight daylight hours of consistent 20- to 25-foot deep water swell (wave face heights of approximately 40 feet) that is the minimum requirement for this event to run."

In its 28th year, the QUIKSILVER IN MEMORY OF EDDIE AIKAU has an excellent track record for making the right call. The event is held in memory of Waimea Bay lifeguard and big wave pioneer Eddie Aikau, who lived for those rare days of epic wave size and quality that are the yardstick for the event. "The Eddie" has only been held at Waimea Bay a total of seven times when conditions have met the criteria.

I know your just quoting George somebodyorother there Nick.

I watched most of the last Eddie, and saw about a thousand pics, and can't remember one that approached a wave face height in the 40 foot region.

I think we should have an extended and heated discussion about wave face heights and how big you then call them.
