anyway, I'm liking this system less now.

Models and f/casters undercooked the initial burst of wind extending into sub-tropical lats and the accompanying fast-building windswell it caused.....surf is now 4ft+ (prolly 3-5ft) on the open stretches.

Problem is, like most swells this winter, this big surge of wind has created an almighty water pile up manifesting as long shore drift.

This is fcuking with the nascent sandbar recovery from the events in June ( a recovery which was really just beginning to back-fill in the points with the nor-easters)......so once again, the banks get a hammering from a low-grade stormy windswell before the better quality groundy.

not happy Huey

Gee, I would have expected it to be much larger than that down your way today Steve. Byron buoy recorded a Hmax approaching 11m earlier today!!!!

Yeah I know, but still, a windswell Hmax of 11m is rather impressive!!!

Swell is kicking on the Goldy, buoy on the rise and some solid 4-5ft sets out the back of Burleigh and D-Bah it seems.

Definitely started to muscle up about 830 this morn.
Conditions are pretty nasty, though. The wind could blow the spots off a dalmation.

Was thinking as I was waiting for one last wave that the chance of getting good swell coinciding with good tide, good wind and daylight is pretty bloody small. Small wonder that those with flexible schedules and decent local knowledge get the treats, even in these days of surfcams and forecasts.

not bad looking prog for next week as a broad area of tropical low pressure activates an easterly dip first in the Coral Sea then between New Cal and the North Island.

Pressure gradients still look a bit on the weak side but fun surf from the E looks imminent.

Shhhhhh, Steve, don't spoil it yet mate!!

My prognosis is the low will be whisked away quickly to the SE, before rapidly intensifying once again behind the swell shadow of NZ!!!!

Shit, don't let Ron hear you had fun in the surf.

Had a bowly little beachbreak to myself today, just bodysurfing and having fun.

Didn't claim anything.

boo, my last 2 surfs have been bodysurfs, swell so small it just wasnt even worth surfing, but just diving into the wave sideways and skimming across the face before it closes out over the top of ya, ahhh, love body surfing, keeps one sane
