Autumn - How's it lookin?

What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

Going on nothing more scientific than gut feel, I reckon we're building into a month's worth of excellence, starting in late March.
Probably centred around the 29th-3rd of April (because I'll be on the other coast then...)

I note that EC is playing it down a fair bit compared with GFS, or at least delaying it past GFS's predictions (which tends to question the reliability).

Anyway, it's not that often I get excited about things in our southern quadrants, but this one's got me excited, probably cause the last month has been so fecking average here.

I've heard a few rumours of some good sandbanks that are well primed awaiting something from the south too!!! :D Shame local winds look like they ain't gonna come to the party for the beaches!!!

Feck Huey is a pr1ck!!! The first time in a while and he looks set to deliver an impressive E/SE groundswell on our shores and what's he decide to do with local winds.....create a small shitty surface low running parallel to the Qld coastline at the same time the swell is expected to arrive.

You are a right pr1ck Huey!!!!

Yeah those winds are gonna pretty much destroy it.

You think the winds will reach, say the mid-north coast area?

Very, very disappointing start to Autumn, all things considered.

Several times the maps have shaped up unbelieveably then we get this crap.

I haven't seen a proper 6 ft wave since Boxing Day.

Should be blaming the models rather than Autumn Steve. The model reliability at present is fecking woeful at best!!!

Bum, Swellnet's forecast pretty much sums up my thoughts quite well. Enjoy.

Funny how the late season monsoonal pattern extended into the equinox (traditional northern hemi start to autumn) then gave us a u-beaut late season E swell run over Easter......not unusual but still....
Now with showers and cool sou-wester in the wake of cold front it feels more like July.
And the sand remains the same.

What's the best wind direction for Kirra?

I keep seeing SE, that doesn't sound right. Every time I've seen Kirra really barrelling it's been SSW or SW.

How would Kirra go on a straight west wind?

Kirra prefers S/SE winds. Any west in the wind and it's crossshore. SW is just bearable IMO.

So when the rest of the goldy is effectively unsurfable, Kirra is pumping perfect barrells??
