What are we talking about here? For starters, cyclones may form in the Coral Sea or tropical South Pacific but have now impact whatsoever on Qld or surf potential for SE Qld. So are we predicting how many cyclones will:

A) form in the Coral Sea and tropical South Pacific (and how far out into the South Pacific do we go??)
B) cyclones that cross the Qld coastline
c) cyclones that generate surf for SE Qld (requires a definition of "surf")

I'm going for:

A) 6
B) 2
C) 3

I think the original State Gov't statement which triggered Fongs' post related to the number which were likely to impact on Qld weather. Wnd, rain, probable flooding.
IIRC they said 5(or6 :? ) with two likely to cross the coast.

Anyway I'm going out to wax my feet in readiness for tomorrow.

I've lived in QLD since '94. Every year since I've lived here, around this time, some goon on TV makes a prediction of a whole lot of cyclones this season.

Be it El Nino, La Nina or La Isla Bonito, the same story get's trotted out every year. I wish they'd just STFU, then maybe we might actually get a good cyclone season. Huey hates people pre-empting his activity.

QLD cyclones can often be duds.

South Pac cyclones are the jism.

TC Bola is a benchmark (Feb 88).

Modern incarnations Ului and Vania stacked up pretty good.

SW movement into the swell window is key (particularly if they sneak out behind Vanautu or Grand Terre at peak intensity).

Otherwise, I'd prefer an easterly dip or offshore trough.

After me telling my mates for over the last week to be patient as this morning was going to be the pick of the week in SE Qld, my mates scored big time this morning. Uncrowded southern Goldy beachie 3ft+ barrel fest. They said it was breaking like TOS but without the crowd!!!

Shame I fecked my back and couldn't join them!!! Arrrghhh!!!!
