Thanks Steve but its been more good luck than a good call on my behalf. Either way we've got swell in Spring so that's gotta be a good thing. Shame its massive high tides at the moment!!

AccessG was on the money with this one sometime ago I believe, compared to the other models. Knotch one up for them.

Bizarre.
Weather obs from Ballina (Airport)7.30pm are reading 16-28knots and here at Lennox not 5 miles as the crow flies it's dead calm.

hhmmmmmm.

Even I'm starting to get the shits now.
Been too long and too many hopeful trips to the beach.
I'm not gonna surf crap though. I mean, I'm not being greedy. All I ask is that the occasional 2' swell co-incides with some gentle offshore winds. Instead of the ESE gales we've been getting.
This is my fifth spring back in Queensland and it's by far the worst.
Made even worser by the fact that whenever there's a hint of waves I get a phone call from one or other of my sometime employers asking "can I give them a few days, please?".

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

say no?
You don't really get retirement, do you?

Cheer up, Trev. I've been back in SEQ for 3 weeks and already got good waves on the Sunny Coast. Sure, they were 1-2 foot, but they were clean and empty. And probably within sight of your normal haunt.

Very true.
They're there if you know where to look. And there's a lot more than just one or two options.
I just keep getting offered good money to work here and there and having been a worker all my life it's hard to turn down good money - even when there's a chance of waves.
And retirement/ Yeah. I understand it. I have a car, a pushbike, a sea kayak and plenty of "reasonable" coffee places with excellent views.
What more could I want - well? More surf.
Might have to get myself another catamaran and REALLY revisit my youth.

Speaking of which, SE Qld wave buoys certainly well on the up!!! Question is, is this the SE groundswell or more locally generated tradewind swell. Big difference between Tpeak and Tz at the moment so it's always hard to tell from the wave buoys which is the dominant wave height.

http://www.coastwatch.com.au/SurfBeach/ ... hHome-346/

Byron buoy is indicating more of the SE groundswell as opposed to any locally generated swell.

Thoughts anyone? Steve? Any thoughts based on local observations?

It's very much SE groundswell with some short period gurgle running through it.

Pretty fcuking juicy too.

I'd call it 3-4ft, right on size. Maybe the very occasional bigger one.

Plenty of juice as befits the swell period and angle (for this stretch of coast anyhows).

Thanks. Is that at south facing beaches, or the point?

Well ,like I alluded to, the prevailing orientation of this stretch of coast is SE.....so these angle swells have a pretty even spread.

S facing beaches were certainly no smaller.
