NOAA Virtual Buoys

What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

NOAA Virtual Buoys

Post by Topher » Mon Apr 11, 2011 2:06 pm

Can any of the weather boffins here help me?

When looking at coastalwatch cam pages I always check the little graph found when you click the 'virtual buoys' tab under the surf report.

Like this one: http://www.coastalwatch.com/swell/forec ... ocation=30

Where can I find this data/graph elsewhere? The Coastalwatch pages don't always show a current graph even though it says 'Updates Daily 5am, 11am, 5pm, 11pm QLD TIME'. Today it still shows 7,8,9 april.

Seems to be by far the most consistantly accurate prediction of swell and wind that I have found.

Anyone know a page that has current data?

for current data try the mhl buoys. theres a link on the home page. you can track swells by watching the buoys up and down the coast. they take time to decipher the data to your local beach. the buoys are farken gold. when u read em correct, and monitor them when you got some surf time, you WILL get surfs that the forecasters miss, which can result in a couple of hrs of crowd free surfing till the sheep get up and log on....
for winds, try weatherzone marineforecasts. all major coastal areas have wind data loaded half hrly. same again. watch for southerly changes moving up the coast to work out where to surf....

Check out the changes between 6 a.m. and mid day on the 2nd May.

Pity it was May day holiday and the surf was packed.
