Spring. How's it lookin?

What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

Thanks Fong. Looks like the early-mid morning low tides are draining the energy of the swell, so be patient and hope the winds stay light til after the tide turns and the swell should start to pulse then me thinks.

Well, from the looks of the wave buoys, and local wind stations, combined with the modelled (as opposed to forecast) swell heights for tomorrow, I know what I'd be doing tomorrow morning lads!!!! :D :D That is, if I didn't have a fecking 8:30am meeting!!!

Fingers crossed this little puppy comes off for us SE Qld surfers!!!

Sorry to say looks like you southern folk won't see any swell from this system.

Most models are hinting at some nice convective activity out in the Tropical South Pacific in around 7-9 days time as well, with the latest 00z EC run showing some damn nice looking stuff!!!

Most models are now aligning quite well for some tropical activity out near New Cal in about 1 week's time.

Thoughts?

TSR's latest prediction of tropical cyclones for this season is out. Currently predicting TC activity about 40% above the norm, with 8 TC's predicted and 15 tropical storms predicted!!!

Yeah, some nice looking developments out there for you blokes DonW.

And what sort of swell would we all be getting if not for that stupid pair of islands to the east.

Should light up your part of the coast, but I'm afraid there isn't likely to be too much energy left for us southerners. :(

Just had another look at the charts.

NZ will be blocking an absolute belter of a swell that would have lit up the whole east coast pretty much all next week.

Won't somebody move those damn islands!

On the positive side, there could be a bit of energy for the Sydney battlers from that system you are talking about Don.

Fair to say that the majority of the fetch is aimed at us Oldman, but with radial spreading and the fact that the models tend to understimate the swell heights from these compact little systems (particularly for you guys given the limited forecast fetch on the SE flank of the low pressure system), I reckon you guys could see some fun, albeit inconsistent 3-4ft sets from this puppy late next week (say around Thurs/Fri and beyond). Assuming of course it plays out as per current GFS forecasts (still some doubt over this).
