Ului
Forget Tomas, he's old news. If TC Ului tracks as per current EC and GFS charts, then SE Qld can expect one hell of a storm swell come next weekend (easy 10-15ft). No-where will be handling this storm swell due to the close proximity of the storm to the coastline. Even tow-ins will be questionable due to the constant swell (once again another factor of the close proximity of the storm). Couple this with some new moon large high tides and we can expect Noosa and the southern end of the Gold Coast to end up in the ocean (beach erosion). Multiple storm bars will form along all open beaches and we can expect Autumn 2010 surfing along open beachies to be gone for some time.
We do not want Ului this close to the coast!!!!

28-30 January, 1967. CYCLONE DINAH. Severe damage at Heron Island then causing more destruction from Rockhampton to Grafton, NSW. Water knee deep in Hastings Street, Noosa from storm surge.

Whilst it may hold the size, good luck to anyone who tries to paddle out if that size comes to fruition!!!huie wrote:the park will hold the size it will sure sort a few out

Re: Ului
Current track will render all talk of surf pointless, it will be a very large washing machine.
Good time to sell out of any listed property trusts that have high exposure to gold coast and sunny coast property.

Re: Ului
Hang on a cotton picking minute.
The Noosa Points can easily handle a Cat2/3 cyclone tracking within a few hundred kays of the coast(or even closer).
Have u forgotten Hamish already?
Roger?
Dinah? etc etc.
Way too early to be saying it is unsurfable......Noosa only really fires under these condys.
Double/triple OH Boiling Pot is unreal.
(as are other locations in that neck of the woods).
I'm thinking of making the trip.

should we just tell Swellnet to book in Noosa as the ONLY place to surf during this event?
It could use some more hype you know, only 500 guys out yesterday.

Probably 6-8ft Pot will be the only time you will get it uncrowded.
Actually there's a few places up that way that should be pumping.
But whinging about Noosa crowds is pretty weird......last time I chased a swell there I swore it would be the last.

Re: Ului
yeh same. for the last 5 sessions. it has a power...
i'll be keen to try my 6'1 diamond tail single fin.
i went 'fishing' one night about 6 years ago forgetting there was a cyclone. anyone know the cliffs between Granites and Hell's Gates? at least 10 metres above sea level and I got hit by breaking wave spray. wow, and I almost climbed down ignorantly during a lull in sets when I first got there. no doubt i would have been swept in.

Re: Ului
At this stage the other cyclone, though further away, was tracking better for NSW Coops.
This one is travelling so high up the qld coast, that it is possible that nothing much will get past Steve's place.
Last I looked it was forecast to be crossing the mainland around Mackay way. Way too high up for us, will need a south east trajectory on it to get down to Sydney.
Forecasting the movements of TC's is very difficult though, could go anywhere.
Edit: nah, scratch that Coops. We may get some swell from the further out TC, perhaps Wednesday onwards, long range and lined up, but this one is likely to send some swell down our way for next weekend and beyond. Bit messier and not as lined up, but probably bigger. Keep your eyes on it.

Fong, do you want a surfing buddy for one of those spots a bit further north which you know about?steve shearer wrote:Probably 6-8ft Pot will be the only time you will get it uncrowded.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.
