TC Jasper.

What surfer doesn't care about the weather? Who hasn't predicted the arrival of a new swell? Do all of it here!

Schizophrenic track but JTWC and BOM both think forward motion will slow and this puppy will do-ce-do round the Coral Sea.
Anyone remember Rewa?
I'm liking the look of Jasper.

I'm still not rating cyclones this close to the coast though Steve (and I know this one isn't that close ATM....but early next week could be another story), but it's just creating fresh onshore winds as it pushes up against the Tasman highs, thus limiting surfing options in SE Qld at least, to a few select CROWDED point breaks. If TC Jasper wasn't here, then we'd still have some fairly nice tradewind/groundswell combinations occuring due to the quite long and stationary fetch associated with several large high pressure systems spanning the Tasman and South Pacific east of New Zealand, but we'd have potentially better local synoptic winds (without Jasper in the equation), thus perhaps opening up a few more surfing options.

Don't get me wrong, if GFS comes to fruition, early-mid next week could see some primo conditions on those select few point breaks in SE Qld......EC on the other hand may not be so kind with the winds potentially having a little more east in em.

I personally rate much more highly the hybrid system/s that we had over the weekend just off New Caledonia......which sent in some sneaky 5ft waves on Monday and this morning (and looking at current wave buoy data this swell train is still kickin), compared to these TC that cruise parallel to the coast, in closer proximity.
