Re: Could you swim 1km?

Being a competent swimmer since I was a kid,I had always thought regular surfing was enough that I could swim reasonable distances if required. A few years ago I started swim training for a series of ocean swims they have over here each summer. 1st day in the pool was a real eye opener. I could not ...

Re: Check out Chenggong

Very comprehensive, slowman, thanks for taking the time. Almost feel guilty if I don't end up going, but it seems like it's more than worthy of the effort. Channels also sent me a pm with a bit of info, so I'll publicly thank him whilst I'm at it

Re: Tandem Surfing.

A friend's 8 yo daughter wants me to teach her to surf. Need to get hold of something long so I can start her off tandemly. She's lithe and well coordinated so she'll go alright. When she's on tour, maybe I can tag along and caddy for her American Thighs still gets played semi regularly at our house...

Good photos there, spork. Makes me wish I was there. Ok in August, but smallish swell meant too many boats around cokes and chickens. Any of them shots you?

Re: FFW - Wingnut's Backyard Boards

Honestly mate, I admire you and everyone else who has a crack at it Had a mate who made boards when we were teenagers. He was getting good at it and then fcuked up his life with drugs. He's dead now. I used to do filler/finish coats for him. I'd watch a bit of the shaping and glassing so I have an g...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

All sand cliffs will slump as they dry out, as a rule of thumb they collapse to 1.5 times the height of the scarp. The angle of repose of dry sand is something like 35 degrees, the angle of wet (but not saturated) sand is something like 120. Think about making a sandcastle, moist sand will stand up...

Re: Check out Chenggong

There's talk among some mates of maybe going next year. Any little bits of info re costs, where to stay, must dos, etc. would be greatly appreciated. If I go, my wife will too so it'd be more than just a surf trip for me. Would travel lightly so maybe just 1 board for ease of getting around

Re: should occky be strip of his world crown?

I've previously referred to a mate who was a pro rider in Belgium for several years. He tells me that at the start of some team training races they'd all be on so much juice they'd be shaking. He also has a book (by Philippe Gaumont I think) that shows diary entries of drug taking. Frightening amounts

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Short answer, yes. Witnessed a pretty big slump over here during winter. Would've been lucky to survive if it landed on you. It's only likely to happen when there's evidence of it occurring on a smaller scale. So if you see some new slumping at the bottom of a steep dune, it could happen if waves ar...

Re: Magnesium ... good for ya health?

The ear infections are bacterial, dw. That's why they work on the kids. Kids are a bit different to adults. They can crash very quickly in comparison, but the good thing is that they generally recover more quickly. Hope your ailment fcuks right off soon

Re: Magnesium ... good for ya health?

Antibiotics DO NOT WORK on viruses. Never have and never will. They fight bacterial infection. Using them for futile purpose has resulted in bacteria becoming increasingly resistant to them. Has big implications for human health - and for dogs, cats, horses, cows, etc. EDIT: I was sidetracked (worki...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Got a dawn surf in at Gunnamatta this morning. It was a pretty small small but decent enough. There has been massive erosion there recently. The steps leading down to the beach at the second carpark have been washed away and so has a decent few metres off the top sand covering of the beach. The tra...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Certainly feels like we're all pretty easy targets. I've got a 4/3 RC E bomb that I've had for a few winters. Good suit, but others have had the same suit disintegrate in no time. Might be luck of which Asian sweat-shop worker did the gluing and stitching I also have a 'bong 3/2. The legs have stret...

Re: FFW - Wingnut's Backyard Boards

I've sometimes wanted to post pics straight from the web. Way too many times I've got the message "Unable to determine the size of the image" Just once I posted a paint image (my own) successfully. Stuffed if I know how I did it as it seems pics already have to be in the public domain. It's painful ...
