Don

I can't think of any possible reason of why I'd be more deserving of a RealSurf T than any other Forum reader...but you've got to be in it to win it.....

Coastie Got any picks of those boards? They sound great - have you ridden any of the McCoy nuggets - fuller plan shape, greater thickness, ride great! I've got a 7'6" fun shape for the days when my soft railer won't work - I tried a mates 7'0 Nugget and it catches waves easier than my 7'6 and is far...

KK The info I've got is from a number of sources, but it's pretty light on details (I've posted what I know, not much): - A newly released Surf Encyclopedia had an entry for him; - The Mavericks book (which I got from the Library) was also a history of big wave surfing and I'm pretty sure it had a p...

From what I can work out, he's just a local bloke from the Central Coast. Enters in the old Mal contests - surfs really good.

Allright KK

I have some info about Reno and his boards for you (thanks to squizzing through that new Surf Encyclopedia).

Reno was a bit of a shaper as well, starting out with Brewer (as you suggested), heading out on his own for a while, before hooking up with Lightning Bolt.

Boogers They're part of the whole process. I started out on one, and moved on to try something different. I've seen some great rides on bb's and there are times when it's really sucky (and I'm not good enough to ride a stick when it's real sucky) that I wish I had a bb again. BTW - best tube I ever ...

I was out at Shelley about a month ago, and as I paddled out, about 10 guys were paddling in. Turned out they'd seen a shark in the line up. I don't normally worry about 'em, cos I imagine that most of 'em wouldn't find me very appetising anyway, but when I went out later in the week at the same spo...

I know Gerry Lopez was re-issuing some of his Lightning Bolt boards that they used in the early 70's. I've seen some pics of Reno running up the beach with a serious gun in the Mavericks book, but I have no idea of who shaped it - and Eddie Aikau rode a red Hobie on the North Shore at around the sam...

Nicely put Coasteau.... Some guys out there are freakishly talented, and make it all look so easy - longboarders and shortboarders. The common theme is 'right board for the conditions'. Riding a 'dark ages' log can allow you to make the most of less than perfect surfing conditions - in a way a guy t...

Maybe the answer is to not take part in the whole local thing..... I'll surf 3-4 times a week, at maybe 2 or 3 beaches -depending on the conditions. I'm not a "local" anywhere by anyones description. I know my limits. I know the rules. I know enough that my oversize board can take all the waves if I...

Got myself the new leash - the knee type one. I doesn't get tangled as much, but yeah, I've found the board snaps back differently on mine too - chipped my front teeth when I found out  I find it really rubs against the back of the knee too - which irritates, so I tend to alternate between ank...

Can't say I've surfed them all, but by my reckoning one point break wave is worth 5 beachies and that's how I justify waiting so long to get on a point wave (especially when folks just don't follow etiquette - that's another topic!!)
