Re: Surf school surfers

Further to shearer's post, I've done a couple of separate sets of research into surf school student follow-up, about three years apart, one on the Goldie and one in Sydney, and got about the same response, around 5% retention rate over six months. Surfing numbers in general are fascinating—they're ...

Re: The Surf Helmet Discussion

I got a surf helmet (Gath) when I went to Tonga. But I realised that: They only provide protection from cuts, not from impacts, apart from spreading the force a bit. There's very little padding in them. They have a tendency to fill up with water when duckdiving, meaning you have to keep your head do...

Re: Is this a good surfboard deal?

Swvic, you joined in 2011 and you still don't know anything about posters? Time to find another forum. If I remember correctly, Longyfreshy is a lady in her early 50s returning from a serious knee injury. Very keen but by her own admission not an expert on equipment. Longyfreshy, what Steve said. I ...

Re: Take Away dim-SIM

yeah, I get that, but you were talking about getting it back from Capt Caveman in the new year. Anyway, I was just presenting a potential other option, which included getting it back. If you've sold it already and want to wait till next time then that's fine. The option will still be there. I also g...

Re: Take Away dim-SIM

might be able to help with getting it from the Goldy to Torquay.
A workmate goes there fairly regularly, will probably be there in mid-late January and again around Easter (for pick up?)

Re: Vanishing Narrabeen - what happened?

A few different things. The beach rotates based on the swell direction (and ENSO and Interdecadal Oscillations etc), so sometimes the south end is wider and sometimes the north. Where the beach is in the rotation influences the width at different parts of the beach. Generally, there haven't been man...

Re: Flat Days and alternatives... Racing mal? SUP? Kayak? Yo

look for a plastic one second hand, less chance of it being stuffed than a fibreglass one. Ozflyte Enduro is a reasonable one. Don't know any other brands, that's just what my brother got and I've thrashed it. (Not certain it's plastic, actually?) Check out geartrade dot com dot au Some on there for...

might be interested in Nick's recommendations about racing skis posted elsewhere " I would frankly err on the side of quality and go for a real surf racing ski. Dolphin or Gibbons. A new one is vastly a better call than a second hand unless you know the seller quite well; skis are notorious leakers ...

The ultimate prize is when an idea disappears as an idea to become a thing among other things. That's where it finds its completion. Having become con-substantial with the surrounding world, the idea no longer has to appear as an idea and no longer has to be supported as such. A vanishing of the id...

A lion hunts a zebra. It's existing utterly in the moment, but it has a reason for hunting the zebra. Survival. Some might describe that as a Zen state, others might describe it as living in the moment, still others might describe it as being some pretty heavy lion sh1t. http://www.jgcinema.com/img...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

seen the surf report for the east coast in the past couple of weeks, Hatchy? Got wet in the lower-mid Sunny Coast. Small, full and weak, but a decent bank and fun. Shared a peak with my brother. He's natural but went left, I'm goofy but went right... Saw a dugong, surfaced about 10m away! They're ma...
