Re: Provoked shark attacks!!!
I read somewhere a story about a diver, I think in California. Got surprised by a monster Great White he tried to scare it off and poked it with his spear gun (I think) when it swam past, and then it attacked him in defence. So the weapon use made it worse.

Re: Seal in the surf at North Avalon last night
Weren't there a few photos of a big hairy seal sitting at the changing rooms by the South Curl Curl pool a few years ago? It was during some winter storms if I recall correctly. And this one last year (click the arrow next to the pic): http://manly-daily.whereilive.com.au/news/story/picture-perfect-...

Re: Outgoing or incoming tide
I've seen breaks in Indo go from dribble to head high just because the tide is coming in, then go back to dribble when the tide has gone out again. Saying that the tidal range over there was a lot less than Sydney.

Don't even paddle if you see me going for a wave. I won't paddle for it if I'm not going to get it, and if I'm not going to get it I'll let you know with a wave or a nod or a call. Fair enough, but in Sydney you won't get many waves if you give the guy inside, the benefit of the doubt. If I've seen...

Re: Is surfing in Oz(and western countries) on the decline?
I moved to Sydney more than 5 years ago and I'd say I've seen an increase in crowds in that short time. I guess there may be a steady increase of types like me, who were looking for work near waves and have stayed. I also don't see many, if any, groms out during the early, the Brazzos don't seem to ...

What's funny is all the 16-18 year old guys who, the second it's summer, 'have' to wear boardies without a vest even on days where a NE has blown and the water is cold again. I love it as they don't last long and get out. It must be terrible being one of these guys cause they can't wear a vest, heav...

Hehe always funny when people post questions on here.
Go to the below link if you want to ask questions. No doubt there are weirder questions on that site than you've asked.

Re: Mentawais Vs Maldives
Thing is with crowds in Indo is if it's long range ground swell and not much in between in can be a long wait between sets. Then because it's a reef break and not a peaky beach break with lots of take off spots, you have to wait your turn, and that can take some time.....

Re: Local bullies
The problem with punching a 'local' or anyone you don't know, is that you don't know how many of his mates are in the water at that point, or if you can make it back to your car without getting jumped on by them...... If you surf the area quite often it could also mean bad vibes every time you go th...

South Narra is a good spot to avoid that sort of stuff. Then again, the bank(s) at south narra are so shit now that it only attracts a few, who are spread out. Longy is a good place also Southy? I've surfed there minding my manners. Some guy drops in on one of the better right handers of the sessio...

Re: Manly Tsunami?!?!
There's a similarly huge chunk of rock hanging off another Canary right now, waiting for a semi dormant volcano to blow it off. When it does, all else remaining equal, NYC etc will be obliterated. I guess the US will bomb the shit out of Spain in response to that after it happens. Actually.... come...

Re: If you surf brownwater.........
Considering that a typical adult GWS is around 4m and the biggest are 6m it's had to believe a 5.5 is swimming around Brownwater when there's only fish to eat. Surely he/she would be hanging around a seal colony or somewhere more tasty like Bondi.

Reports are that both the Ambacang and the Bumiminang hotels in Padang have collapsed. For those of you who have ever over-nighted in Padang that's where you would most likely have stayed. I stayed in the Bumiminang last year but was warned it wasn't safe after it was weakened by the 2004 Aceh quake...

My fault too. Not only did I just get a new board, but it's a step-up. So when will I ride this new baby...... going to be a looooooong wait. Was thinking about getting one in Autumn and waited till the end of the season to finally get an order in. Pffft :?

Fri Nov 23, 2007 10:30 pm I got the Rip Curl Rincon with a rubber strap for my Birthday just about 2 weeks ago. Seeing as this thread has popped up again I'll quote myself above and say mine's still going strong, but had to have a battery replacement a month ago. Took it to Rip Curl in Manly (where...
