Re: that wetsuit discussion...
I live in Canada and owned a 5mm rip curl flashbomb that lasted me 3 years and kept me warm even in winter... Then I switched to a 5mm xcel revolt and was incredibly disappointed with it's warmth compared to the flashbomb... doesn't even come close.

Re: Good month for Baja Sur - Pacific West Coast
So that would be March? Is it true the water is quite a bit cooler that time of year?

Re: Good month for Baja Sur - Pacific West Coast
Hawaii is two flights for me and usually 50 percent more expensive to fly, as well as a lot more expensive when you get there for food, car rental and accommodation. But yes I will make it there again sooner or later.

Re: Good month for Baja Sur - Pacific West Coast
Well the appeal of Baja is very cheap direct flights; 4.5 hours and boom I'm in Mexico, no fuss, no lay overs. I spent a week there one November but was injured at the time and couldn't surf very well... couple that with the surf being small and very blown out by 10am to sunset every day. I did get ...

Re: Good month for Baja Sur - Pacific West Coast
That's too far; I can fly 4 hours direct to Mexico... away from my cold ass ocean.

Good month for Baja Sur - Pacific West Coast
Hello, So when is on average a good time to bank on a 1-2 week trip to Baja in the Todos Santos area? I went for a week mid Novemeber a few years ago and this surf was very small and heavily blown out all day, every day. Bad luck? It seems on average the area either gets a lot of on shore wind, or n...

October; Hawaii... Oregon to California... or Nova Scotia?
Enlighten me! ... Please. I'm am considering travelling to one of these destinations for a couple weeks from the 1st to 3rd week of October (2 weeks). I live in Western Canada. California would be a road trip, the others would be a flight. Originally this was going to be in September and the Califor...

Re: Why does the big island not get love for surfing?
I've visited Kauai, though I was a bit injured and a newb back then. Got some good times at Polihale and Hanalei and I would love to go back to Kauai. Maui seemed like it had a lot of potential when I was there during late Nov to early Dec... but the north shore was blown out while I was there; It w...

Why does the big island not get love for surfing?
I read and hear often that surfing on the Big Island isn't nearly as good as the other major islands of Hawaii... What's the reason for that; given the size of the island I would figure there would be a lot of options? Lack of breaks? lack of quality? lack of consistency? A lot of people say if surf...

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
The surf was ok, warm water was a treat but the surf wasn't anything better than Vancouver Island while I was there; likely because I missed the good winds which shifted the day after I got there, and almost every day around 8:30 strong onshore winds would begin and not let up until the sun went dow...

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
Well I arrive the morning of the 18th... It's a long way off but looks like the weather, winds and humidity may immediately turn less ideal the day after I arrive... I guess I shouldn't put much stock in forecasts beyond a week though... still bit of a bummer to see that. https://weather.com/weather...

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
Ok thanks... The long range weather forecast beyond Easter (while still a long ways off and prolly subject to change) looks like I'll be rolling in at the beginning throws of the wet season, calling for a chance of afternoon thunderstorms over a number of days and slightly cooler temperatures. Is th...

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
So I had tentatively booked 1 night in Playa grande, 3 nights in Junquillal, 3 nights in Nosara and 3 nights in Malpais... though I am thinking of dropping the Malpais portion of the trip and staying in Nosara or maybe 3 nights in Marbella... Looking at the distance between Malpais and Nosara is ove...

Re: Oregon - Central California in September
Well I hadn't planned to spend a day at each place; kind of group like 2 places per day in proximity to one another with extra days further south.

Re: Oregon - Central California in September
Not much info really, sharks are out there, attacks are rare... Stop at Seaside, Santa Barbara maybe not good that time of year, Santa Cruz and Monterey are best. I'll have two weeks I can spend driving down the coast and surfing. Places on my list -Seaside -Oswald State Park -Oceanside -Pacific Cit...
