Re: Spirit of Akasha - Tribute to 40 years of MOTE
If you show up to surf in Byron and you haven't got a single fin you're an item of abject pity and scorn. You might as well be a paedophile wearing birkenstocks and socks. After this film I expect that to become a world-wide phenomenon. Saw Andrew surfing at the Pass yesterday on a double keeled Pav...

Re: Bigger shortboard or smaller midlength for intermediate?
Beery, to figure out this dilemma you've got to figure out how you want to surf and what waves you'll be riding.
two different approaches here.

Re: Ask Carroll
btw, just for the record, I'm not advocating sensationalist Today Tonight/TMZ "Kelly Slater Busted Doping!" headlines. I'm not suggesting throwing anyone under a bus. Just some mature, thoughtful long form journalism that looks at culture and context. And for the record TMZ offered me a gig after I ...

Re: Ask Carroll
Yeah, that whole NRL drug culture was exposed by the media and it seems there's been a pretty big shift there. Individuals who get off the rails are at the least helped...... the culture has changed. Whether individuals accept the help ...well that's another thing. But it seems that at least a few l...

Re: Ask Carroll
I almost lost my job several times over the book.
I read it at the Coolangatta Airport newsagency over a couple of week period......ten, twenty, forty pages at a time.
I was so engrossed and then the phone would ring.......fcuk!.....I was ten minutes late and people were spazzing out.

Re: Ask Carroll
Yes, you're right. You think I'm singling you out but it was a culture. A culture I was a part of too. But I did try and write about the drug culture in surfing, as well as a few other things and it was just flat out rejected by the gatekeepers. Too likely to cause offence to the advertisers. Not co...

Re: Ask Carroll
Nick I finished the book last night. The salient criticism is that the journos were too close to the subjects, too indebted to the surf industry, too much overt cheerleaders for ProSurfing. All that is made abundantly clear in your book. You're quite open about it. But still there doesn't seem any w...

Re: Ask Carroll
Last I heard he was living somewhere on the Goldy (where surf stars go to die?), surfing every so often. Underground. There is an enduring interest in these fallen idols (much to Nicks slight annoyance and bemusement) because of the history of destruction of our finest talents. The sense I get from ...

Huey you truly are a c v n t. What are you talking about Don? Been day after day after day of super fun surf on the Points. Semi-clean in the E to ESE wind. Less crowded after the holiday madness and just so, so many waves on the bank. Now's the time to stock up on B/C-grade Point surf. This is lik...

Iggy I know Carroll and I see things with very different eyes but if you are even considering a single-fin semi-gun you need to put a Bonzer on your radar. Unbeliveable feeling surfboard. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb195/lennox76/quiver1.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb195/lennox76/...
