Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

That's the one! Sidecut 5'6 about four years ago- maybe longer, blew me away. Remember thinking that it wouldn't float me! How wrong i was, i surfed it all day, and even enjoyed it on my backhand. I owned a Mark Rabbidge fish and we did a board swap - but had to give the Mackie back to the owner :ro...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Finbox and sixounce are excellent board stores - a tad dangerous on the wallet! Did you spy any of those Rake mini simmons at Finbox? Any other Mackies there? Yep Mackie's boards are awesome - his fish are the best (imo).

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Alas tis true - just sold a 7'7 jackson mid length and now the Mackie must go too, the liquidation has begun. My lousy hot water system blew up - $3400 .... but the real plan is more about me acquiring a smaller one from Mackie :D although rather than a bonzer i am thinking about one of his 2 + 1 se...

Re: backfoot placement

Hey Captain, what about on your dim sim? What sort of tail pad do you use on a sim?

Re: backfoot placement

I am a fan of the tailpad for foot placement. I use them on both my formula energy alien and my 5'8 nugget. Even though the alien is more front footed (all the width is in the centre) for snaps and bottom turns, feet over the fins is essential. I rode the alien for three months without one and was s...

Re: Mini Simmons

My 5'1 is light, but has enough weight and thickness there for momentum. While the dim sim does the job in slop, man does it go well in bigger stuff and i think because of that little bit of weight It picks up speed very quickly and makes sections i didn't think it could. I have been riding a formul...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

There was some good info on the earlier pages of the zot thread on swaylocks before it became a flaming wreck, because of me, apparently  Anywho, from memory, perseverance was the key to the small zots - according to both surfers - Cozza and Tombstone (both longtime McCoy advocates and good su...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Captain - i'm not much of an analyst when it comes to design - but from the pic, it has a pretty boxy tail with softer rails and less edge further up. Excellent hold and release, certainly not a board you snap at the lip with (at least with my ability). I'm not a big guy and really seem to have to g...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Hey Davros, i doubt very much you'll be disappointed with Mackie's boards - he is a master and a bloody good surfer to boot. I remember as a grommie watching him take on some heavy waves at Shark Island. I have checked out some of his boards more recently at sixounce and he seems to be doing everyth...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Davros, i got it 2nd hand, it may have belonged to mackie? I like it in bigger faster waves and find it turns really well, especially that first bottom turn. At 6, 21, 2 5/8 it feels like a lot of board. Sometimes find the transition from thrusters and quads to this interesting - you can't pump for ...

How do you get a campbell brothers board over here? I'd like to try one of those contemporary ones.

Re: Mini Simmons

I had my 5'1 out at the farm today in clean 4ft - it goes off in walls and crumbling waves from 1ft-4ft, i don't ride anything else in these sort of conditions now. But it is not my board of choice in sucky shoreys  They are different from a mal, you'll get more push on a 1fter from a mal, but ...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

I rang Marc to find out what the "GO" was. He is retiring. He did mention this when i last picked up a board, but i didn't think it would be so soon. He has been involved with Geoff for almost thirty years. He did say that Geoff wanted to expand the business. Not sure what that entails - although th...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

OG - last winter i paddled out in 6ft heavy surf at Windang Island on my 5'8 nugget....third wave i got caught out on a slab i thought i could make, but the rail just stuck to the top line and over i went. Hit the board face first and broke my nose badly. I was an amateur boxer for many years and i ...
