Re: Ask Carroll

That was a live - "We are greater than I" moment as J-Dub paddled out to help his mate. As a piece of reality tv , it had more suspense than a Hitchcock classic - for all money, I thought we'd see blood in the water after that wave passed through (Just to clarify, I'm so glad that we didn't). Today ...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015

That was mental - I thought for all money he'd at best get bitten. As that wave passed through the line up and he disappeared from view - One lucky fella.

There might be something to the yum yum yellow theory after all.

or even fallen backward a bit. Yep, wtf is with that. Hasnt happened for a while, but christ, its a bag of shit when it does,. Had the worst case of that recently. Took a surfing lesson which was great. Video footage was shown, with some screaming examples of errors that were simple to fix with per...

Re: Midlengths

Saw an XF webber diamond at the beach this morning. Felt good under the arm, lots of volume in the 6'8. The owner was late 50's - more than competent, fit the bill perfectly. He was stoked with the board. He was running a regular thruster set up. Best part was that he picked it up for $499 at Toukle...

Re: Midlengths

The 4a is 9". Works well. I now have an alkali Lovelace in there - 8.5". To be honest I can't tell much of a difference between the 2. Not like the difference between a 4a and 4c.

Re: Midlengths

8'2 - it's a sherbert, a bigger version of the V-Bowls with a squarer nose. This is it here: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/a0/08/43/a0084394a62b8a9b48bbc467e0f099e1.jpg It takes a few waves to get used to it cos the deck is dead flat, but it taught me to appreciate rails. I got it second...

Re: Midlengths

Unlike a hull, the V-Bowls has a hard edge in the tail - best of both worlds. Easy to ride, difficult to master, but a load of fun in the right conditions.

Good call, someone mentioned to me that the MR twins went well with it. From memory you had a lot of love for bonzer side bites ??

How do you reckon the Soar twin plus nubster would go with your old DVS 8' All rounder?

Why is his motto "designs to free your mind", but there aren't too many open minds amongst the McCoy crew? I've also heard the crew blow up over Cheyne Horan, how he has his own board designs. The common argument is that a surf team is like Formula 1 - you wouldn't buy an F1 car from the driver, you...

They have them on the cenny coast at Adrift - a coloured board was 1100. A clear would be less. How does it compare to a Bonzer - for price and then for functionality?

Nice writing Braithy, I just read your peace on the live webcast for the ASP. Funnily enough, I forgot about the WSL event - got to see the Duct Tape Invitational streaming through Swellnet instead - with decent waist high waves, ridden on craft designed to excel in just those conditions. Troy Mothe...

Re: Non standard longboards, show them here

Full hipster single fin - ryan lovelace vbowls. 7'11, 23, 3 - has a crazy foil. Really thin nose - hence no nose riding at all...But incredible speed in anything from ankle to chest high. It's stringerless, so i don't go any bigger than that. I've often contemplated selling or swapping for a dedica...

In short I'm not a small guy, and coming down from a longboard or a mid length it's an easier transition - cos the widths and thicknesses were pretty much the same across all my boards. Smallest fish I rode was 6'3. He's not alone in making big fish - Skip makes 'em and they're functional boards. "T...

Re: Midlengths

I've got a couple of bigger twin keel Mackies, a classic 6.6 which I suspect may have been snapped but the previous owner swears it wasn't, and a 6.8 sidecut which is 3 and a half thick (!!), with Chine rails and a real beak nose. Looks like a really interesting board. The 6'6 went well for me when ...
