Re: Modern Planing Hulls

I think you re right Captain, the current crop of Pros have only just summoned up the courage to follow KS and ride a quad in competition >><< ........it could be a decade or two before they ditch their pointy nose boards.

Re: Bong in big trouble

I am watching the billabong pro at the mo and just wondering what impact the billabong rennovation plan will have on pro surfing? I cant see a target/wallmart style set up accommadating a stable of lavishly paid free surfers and WCT events

Re: Modern Planing Hulls

 I'm loving my V4 - but the koolaid over on the 'other' forum has died in the ass majorly  A combination of customer service issues and firewire have combined to become the dead hooker in the closet...stinking fifty pages up majorly. I actually think many of them believed they were part ...

Modern Planing Hulls

Apparently Tomo Firewire's will be coming out next year: http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/news/firewire-partners-with-tomo-surfboards/ This is a prototype: http://instagram.com/p/OuUrx5qQBa/ It will give surfers who don't live in California a chance to demo one but I am not sure that Firewire will ...

Re: Firefly Twinzer

Hey Pinhead,

Please post some pics and a ride report once your done, I am sure your gonna have a lot of fun on that board. I think that when someone wins a WCT event on a board like this, the short wide trend will shift to low volume planing hulls.

Re: When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

few recent pics of Dumplings on my thread if ya interested JaM71 ...lovin my 5 finners atm, my fave 2 current sleds are 5 finners, one is a 5'4" Dumpling originally shaped for Shearer, riding it with DVS semi-keel quads and a little square cut off type fin from an old experimental set called Squin ...

Re: When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

Jam, i've ridden a few of the designs you've mentioned. Tried a traditional mini-simmons and found it didn't grovel well and was pretty average in pitching conditions. Mark Pridmore's Dim-Sim was a really solid all-round simmons design and it actually performed exceedingly well from 1ft mush to ove...

Re: When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

Quad - Faster down the line waves where bit more speed and hold may help. Thruster - shorter peaky type waves where quick directional changes are needed (about 90% of east coast oz waves). Thanks for the input guys and i think that natho summized very sucinctly. Spring is on its way which means sma...

Re: hemroids and surfing dont mix...so shut your fat head !!

So who was winning the argument KK? I've often wondered whether there is a connection between surfing in winter and roids of the hammer variety. If sitting on cold concrete can give them to you (old wives' tale?), what about all that cold water around your date. I need to know. Rip curl are bringin...

Re: When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

I have a tomo v4, but prefer it as a thruster thus far. It goes almost as quick as the quads i've ridden. The main issue i'm having with it as a quad is i only have the Yu quad set-up. While it is great for down the line speed (especially in overhead waves), it is too sticky through turns and lacks...

Re: When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

Yeah I don't usually have combo fin plug set ups. If I get a thruster I don't want it to be a quad and vice versa. Only exception a Bushrat carbon flextail, 'cause I really didn't know what set up would work best on it. (turns out a semi conventional four plus tiny trailer nub.) What I find is, a b...

When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

Hey guys, Serious question! Given that most of us have a quiver and an increasing number of boards have five fin plugs, which type of waves do you prefer to ride a quad? When do you prefer to change it up to a thruster? Then there is the five fin option! I used to think that short fat wide rail cent...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

if he did it wouldnt then be a mccoy. personally i just think its geoff marketing. traditional boards for those that are looking for that. if someone is looking for a more modern take on a surfboard they are probably not considering a mccoy anyway. I get your point and was just being provocative. I...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

I agree moore and As surfy wurfy said all it takes is a some fcs plugs but even this is too much for geoff, i believe he only does glass on fins with his thrusters :|
If he did stringerless epoxy zots with a five fin set up, i d be tempted! >><<
