Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
My son couldn't give a fcuk about surfing and it has got nothing to do with sharks. Basically anything I steer him towards he pushes back in the opposite direction & so I figured a long time ago that it was never going to be a father/son activity in my house. So you offer the young fella some beer,...

Re: Ask Carroll
Look I could go into some spiel about how pure I am but it would be total bullshit, I usually know almost nothing about the supply chains of the shit I buy whether it be clothing, tools, petrol, wine, electricity, natural gas, cups of coffee, meat (I trust the labelling), various spices, cars, TVs,...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
I'm no shark expert, but I do know something of genetics - particularly population genetics. The abattoir was not there for nearly long enough to imbed itself into shark genes. End of story Below is a question from a BeachGrit interview with Derek Hynd. I take it swvic you are from a science backgr...

Re: Ask Carroll
Gday Nick I know that the Kelly Slater Outerknown venture and his motives have been dissected online. My question to you is as a surfer and consumer are there things that have to meet your own ethics before you part with your hard earned money? For example clothing and the conditions which textile w...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Contrary to my first reaction thinking that this would land another blow for J Bay hosting the event going forward (as they are already without a major sponsor), could this whole situation actually attract sponsor dollars for next year? You can bet a heap of people will be tuning in, given what vie...

Re: Ask Carroll
Nick if you need any pointers in promoting your brand be sure to look up Triple M football's Spud Frawley. Has pro surfing (ASP/WSL) ever considered trialling a team style format similar to Davis Cup Tennis or the way team Golf works for a few contests? Say Hawaii, Brazil, America, Australia, South ...

Re: Ask Carroll
No Doubt they do Steve but they would be reasonably efficient. Mick was prone but in all honesty I cannot prove whether I am right or wrong its just simply a theory from watching what everyone else did. Glad they are ok.

Re: Ask Carroll
When I go to eat my omelette I don't miss. Sharks chase fish and seals to survive was a close call don't see an animal that's developed over thousands of years to kill missing a prone target.

Re: Ask Carroll
Rancho Im sure Mick is a good bloke and good neighbour mate but I am not 100% the shark was intent on eating Mick or even sampling him as Mick said he's not sure on the sharks intentions but when seeing where the leg-rope was cut through after Mick jumped back on the ski its a fair distance from his...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Wrong. "Recent satellite tracking studies indicate that the white shark may spend considerable periods of each year in waters remote from pinniped colonies and will undertake very different predatory behaviours while doing so (Boustany et al., 2002; Bruce et al., 2006; Weng et al., 2007a; Domeier &...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
The whole incident was an opportunity to show that sharks aren't indiscriminate killers. That it got caught in the leggie and dove down (away), not up to attack as shown by the tail thrashing. The media a milking this for all its worth. Killer sharks. The effect is that it gets the loony emos calli...
