Re: Modern Planing hulls
Surfed the EVO out at the point the other morning. 3-4ft full high tide. Bit of power. Had it set up as a quad with PC Carver Large fronts and some shapers core lite rear quads. Didn't enjoy it. Felt skatey. Didn't like it. I've put carver fronts and a large AM rear in the centre box for next time. ...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over
Every now and again I think I should've gone with a bonzer instead of my big red 6'8 PCC single. A round tail Russ short really would be nice. Even a 6'6 maybe.

Re: Midlengths
Assuming the Bonzer would be your board for the bigger cleaner stuff. Correct, so I want a quad/2+1 for a bit more snap in beachies. Considering Goddard, Outer Island or perhaps a Christensen Nautilus, which is a stretched out quad fish. The agony of choice?!? For the dollars, you can't go past PCC...

Re: Midlengths
Toots, Where do you surf? What do you weigh? When do you usually surf the bonzer. Assuming the Bonzer would be your board for the bigger cleaner stuff. Then I reckon for smaller junkier waves it's be going a 7'6-7'10 PCC midlength like my green one or going the Jye Burns Crossbreed (haven't ridden o...

Re: Midlengths
i thought the fish thing had been back in vogue for a year, hence the firewire go fish? Too slow if you ask me. But they'll still sell a few. They aren't stupid. They put Rob on a fkn 5'2, he goes and shreds on it. Then average c&$ts try a size up from what robs on, find out its too small then get ...

Re: Fin Construction
Got a set of Medium Large (S6) corelite tri/quads in the EVO I bought second hand the other week. Great size for a 80kg rider. Super light, good flex in the tip. Stiff base. Anything more techie than that is wasted on me. My favourites over the years have been PG7's in my 6'8 waterskate. MRTFX (tri)...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August
Stuart was running the boat the first time we went out. Really worked everything for the trip well. Even gave my son his board to surf Cloudbreak as the rental wasn't that high performance. weather is unpredictable I accept that. Stu did seem like a top end bloke, which is why I'm able to keep an o...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August
They have 2 boats. They we both full. One poor chick was on a "site seeing" trip too. They ended up taking one of the boats back with the poor girl and her partner on it. The rest of us that were hoping for the wind to change stuck it out, but it was all for nothing. I'm trying my best to get them t...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August
Got skunked. Got there on Sunday evening. Monday and tuesday was used to settle in and spend some time with the kids. Called the contact at Fijisurf I was given by a mate. When booking I told him we were flexible with days, but only had one day to spend away from the family etc. He advised that wedn...

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
I put those MR fins in my new shorty, didn't really like them. Stuck the Large AM thrusters back in. Worth a shot. Good news is, I've got a nice set of fins in the bucket. May need to save some dollars for a swallowtailed flyer twin. i'm wanting to experiment with a different technique and material...

Re: Midlengths
They're pretty bloody good value for money those AQSS boards.
Had a chat with a bloke down the beach the other week who was on one of the Takayama scorpion copies. He was stoked with all aspects. Not bad for $399 new.
