Re: Sea Shepherd - Captain Paul Watson

Agreed the Chinese and Japanese and every other nation have rights, just like I have a right to root your missus. However my right to do whatever i want is often overruled by a bigger obligation to the society in which we live in - hence i curb my carnal desires in the interests of the greater good ...

So the big news of the day is the NSW Police Force hunting Aboriginal fugitives in the Bush. To me all the media hysteria reeks. Any comments?

Re: correct paddling technique?

Nic's got it right - learn to swim (properly) - head up freestyle transfers directly to paddling. While you are swimming, remember to do lots of backstroke to balance your musculature and loosen your shoulders. Stretch. As for paddling technique lifting both feet out of the water and crossing your a...

Re: *** BREAKING NEWS*** Bali Being Spoiled By Tourism

On the topic of places being ruined - anyone been to NSW lately? Seriously the joint is full of people, and surfers, and hotels and resorts, and dont even start me on all the badly behaved mexicans on holiday drinking our beer in our pubs. Back in '82 you could surf all the point breaks with your wa...

Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp

big ups to the local shaper who made my last custom board - he was a pleasure to deal with, he clearly lives for surfing and gave every indication that he enjoyed making my board, and and all at incredibly reasonable price. Long live the Aussie shaper!

Re: surfin in contests

reminds me i was on the mid coast last year during an epic swell. Local on a long board, spent half the morning dropping in on anyone and everyone with gay abandon - then the local boardriders comp started and he magically transformed into Mr Play-by-the-rules (geek) and tried to make us paddle down...

Re: the boy in bali on pot charges

this should be a case study in how NOT to deal with the law in Indo If the young lad and his family had copped it fair on the chin, sat tight for a month or two, publicly demonstrated the requisite deference to indonesian sovereignty/ law, and then quietly bribed the right people...he would have bee...

Re: ASP rewards ugly surfing

New school aint going away, so there's a really easy way to resolve the debate - stop holding contests in boring beachies near big population centres (which is ultimately counter-productive because it cheapens the brand) and get back to surfing waves of consequence. So let the kiddies have their air...

i am a psychic, i have looked into your future - you will get a home brew kit for christmas, you will build a shed and have a crack at shaping your own boards, gardening, growing mullies on the sly. You will got to Bellingen for a latte and decide that the hippy dream is just that...and you will end...

Re: Quikky Pro yo

Old timers correct me if i am wrong, but according to surfing folklore, there was a time when surfers didnt get a rats, spoke their minds and compromised nothing in the endless search for perfect waves. Now the Dream Tour serves up a load of toilet water, and only Bobby has the balls to call it like...

Back - mobile phones, in the old days when the surf looked good crew reached for their board, now they are straight on the mobile to call rent a crowd - Point Break for helping to make surfing 'mainstream' - internet, proliferation of information about spots and conditions kills the spirit of discov...

Re: top of the heap ?

Firstly we need to set some criteria, then the answer is obvious, the best surfer ever has to be somone who: 1. is funny as fark 2. renowed for his ability to rip on a thruster 3. sports a proper golden surfers mane, not some EMO shaven headed weirdness 4. ticked the competition box by winning a wor...

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?

i am 5'10 when i stand up straight, but i have bad posture. I think there is a grave risk that i would be overcalling it when it approaches 12ft, ie quadruple and a quarter overhead for me, but only quadruple overhead for most people.

any advice realsurf viewers?

I have not conducted any empirical testing, but will concede that Hawaiians have considerably larger feet than the general surfing populous. However, i would also contend those in the West of Oz have slightly more well endowed, in the podiatric sense, than us on the east coast (as my hellman mates a...

when you get there, drink bucket loads of Pocari sweat, the name is misleading, it tastes worse than sweat, but those little electorlytes are winners.

have a plate of fresh fruit with every meal
