Re: Instant Coffee
My marriage is under enough stress just going on this mission let alone going all South Pacific seamen(yes, extremely bad pun) on her. Mission - sums it up. Should you choose to accept it, RS's will disavow any knowledge of your actions. Surely Mrs SS is feeling the love? Just don't go all Gauguin ...

Re: Instant Coffee
Steve, I've had at least $50 worth of entertainment from your posts and articles, so I'll throw in $100 (that's only about 20 cents per post - bargain really). Would like to put a caveat on the deal - a pic of you dropping into a solid one at Teahupoo. You don't even have to make the drop  ...

Re: winna. how's it lookin?
One major outlier in the above AAO data is for when it was the second largest positive in very early June, Sydney saw a 3m @ 10 sec SE swell (presumbly from a Tasman low) on 31st May. DonW, that June discrepancy must've been all those butterflies going nuts in the Brazilian rainforest. Th...

Re: winna. how's it lookin?
^^^ Sounds like you know what you're talking about  Just checked the SAM data (thanks for the references) and it shows negative numbers for early April and early May this year. Not sure that it translated to any significant south swells for the east coast during that period? I think the Men...

^^^ With a name like Lovenutz, would've thought you'd have the inside running on what sort of balls J-Bay will suck.

Re: current world tour...
Given the loooooong break between comps and the focus on the cut-off just around the corner, if they don't get good waves at J-Bay i would think the balls would be elephant in scale (staying with the animal/continent theme). Balls don't get much bigger to suck than that.

Yep Got a couple of them due to a fortunate circumstance. Shaped myself from Paulownia blanks supplied by Tom Wegener (and his helpful dvd instructions). Enjoyed the shaping process: no resin, no poisons, just timber. Have only surfed them twice so far as conditions in my area generally don't suit t...

Here's a good example of where wide point, rocker and outline curve marry into a deceptively subtle combination that looks like it would ride well.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Mid south coast weekend report: Saturday - swell exhibiting an e/n/e direction. Bit weird. Glassy all day and 3 to 5ft. Noodle arms after 2 long sessions. Sunday - same swell direction (still weird given the location of the low) but a solid 6ft with bigger sets. Checked all the usual spots. The loca...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I'd love to see one of these armchair experts submit a month's worth of 3 and 5 day forecasts to public scrutiny and see how they go. My guess would be about 30-50 percent accuracy. Sure you'd pick up the low hanging fruit and the wounded and sick antelope on the savannah. The easy kills. Bout righ...

Box Head and Umina Point
2 spots that creep me out. Water is often so murky you can't see your feet when sitting on your board. Too many fins and weird splashes.
River mouths in general, especially after heavy rain.

What NC said is the goods. Helps to have some speed to burn off as well.

According to NC's crystal ball, Winna's meant to be a winna!
From the entrails of the goat i just sacrificed, all i can see are...well...entrails.
Anyone know how to read goat entrails for swell ?

Re: What's your longest break from surfing?
at the start of the week we sit down with a swell forecast and our work diaries and work out a schedule so that i get to surf at least twice, and she gets to at least 2 yoga or pilates classes. everyone's happy. Sitting down with the missus and the swell forecasts. That's quite a picture. Getting t...

Surfing certainly massages out the crankiness.RickyG wrote: Besides, I get a bit cranky when I haven't been for a surf in a while
The other half now appreciates my surf time as it means the cranky old cnut is not so cranky. Works wonders.

Re: What's your longest break from surfing?
Had a break from mid 20's to mid 30's where i only surfed once or twice a year. Life got in the way.
What did i miss out on?
Lets break it down:
Say 10 waves per surf
Say 2 surfs per week
That's 1,040 waves per year
and 10,400 regrets over 10 years
Never catch up now.
