What's the right board, pinny?
I know I'll be pilloried for this but ... Hypto crypto or Cymatic. Basically something short, that planes quickly, and releases in the pocket.

Re: The Tulla Tub

Not a great intro to the Tub - smoke was really bad yesterday - air quality rated very poor. High pollen count triggers my asthma but it didn't occur to me that smoke would do the same so I didn't take a puffer. Was a bit weazy when I got there but decided to go out anyway and had a terrible session...

So the Tulla Tub has a bit of a dilemma apparently, as the current pumps, filters etc aren't up to spec for chlorine and the Government wants them to upgrade the equipment ... whoops.
I had to sign a form saying I won't wee in the pool.

I'm looking forward to your report pinhead. We want a review from the ordinary man, none of that paid-for-comment professional surf journo stuff
Rest assured the review will be very ordinary.

What board do you have in mind, pinny?
5'7" modern fish. This what I surf most of the time. Will give me a baseline to get a feel for the wave. If it's not too gutless I'll switch to my asym

Re: The Tulla Tub

Seen some interesting amateur footage. Looks really crowded in the takeoff area with a full crew out. Waves look a lot more warbly too than all the promo stuff. Found this on the Tube. Surfing starts at 8:00 https://youtu.be/teQ2UmsSkWY Does look warbly. Also notice guys bogging top turns further i...

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

I wonder how many shapers use/don't use CAD software? 80% I'd say. There are some who can design in the shaping bay and smash out a shape quicker than a machine or who make handshaping part of their marketing. Machine shapes still take a bit of skill to finish but they do save time and improve repe...

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

That looks great. That guy rips too. A shape like that with the modern foiled performance rails is probably a bit beyond me for my first go. A chunky 70s/80s style rail like an MR is a bit easier and more forgiving of mistakes I reckon. I measured the placement along the stringer from the imaginary...

I'm thinking about making a copy of this one:

Different animal but the Aipa looks like 9" up.

Well the actual 5’10 MR was sitting there and we re-measured before drilling the plugs and it was 10”
Were you measuring to the back of the fins?

Ah, 10” from the tail if the swallow was squared off.
I’ll probably use fcs power twins.
They look good though.
10" seems a bit far up to me. Modern twins are 8.5" - 9.5" I think MR's 6'2"s were 9.5"

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

So like 9" from the tail? Some folks are using this type of fin if the board is too slidey with no tailer:

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

I’ve just started shaping my first board. 5’10 MR inspired twin fin. Cut from a 6’4 burfords MB blank my mate had lying around. Based off a 1980 retro pro but I think I’ll do a vee entry to single to double concave to vee exit instead of full length vee. So far I’ve cut the outline, shaved it close...

I was invited to go to URBSRF's pool in Melbourne on Monday!

But I can't because I'll be in Hawaii. Sorry everyone you'll just have to wait for some future critical analysis.
I wonder if someone who is not a member of the surf industrial complex will ever be allowed to surf this place?

Re: The Tulla Tub

Size is a good three feet on take off grading down slightly after about 50 metres. Urbn surf are saying there will be three distinct waves: experts , intermediates and beginners, but apart from the proper wave I could only see a short crumbly reform about 1- 2 ft high further down the pool. https:/...
