Re: Dear Fong Hislop
Got to question a "story" which still claims GNS numbers are 300 to 500. That figure is from a flawed 2003 "survey". That figure is now widely accepted as poop. The methodology poor. A very conservative estimate of GNS numbers is now 1000 to 1500 and could quite possibly be many thousands. Won't sto...

Re: engine oil off boards; help!
Thanks for the tips fellow humans. Living next to a servo has its advantages: They gave me a big bucket of sawdust, which is what they use. There's currently an inch covering the entire garage floor hopefully soaking up the oil. Thn onto the fun part of sweeping up, degreazing and then the hose.

Re: engine oil off boards; help!
Thanks for the other suggestions fellas. Hey Lessormore, scumbag suffered some nice cuts and bruises and grazing as he was being ""held down"" by my neighbour (cops told scumbag "what a pity" as he started whining). Reckon you can guess what culprit looked like? If you said shiny baggy basketball sh...

Re: engine oil off boards; help!
Thanks skipper, forgot about those soaking pads, had em on my old boat. Didn't lose anything (just stuff had to throw out as covered in oil or broke as he trashed garage) as my neighbour the legend chased the scumsucker down and tackled him and held him until police came. Getting a case of beer for ...

engine oil off boards; help!
Scumbags broke into my and neighbour's garage in our apartment block on Saturday arvo, around 4pm. My neighbour caught one of the sh*theads as he was taking out a kayak and a mal from my garage, but not before they had trashed both our garages. They broke a 2 litre bottle of motor oil as they trashe...

Re: Ask Carroll
Why did Deep die? Was probably my fave Oz mag of past few decades. Do you think there's room for Deep 2.0 now, considering way surfing here has changed even in the time since the original went to mag heaven?

Re: Ask Carroll
Mr Nick you've mentioned a love of the ocean as motivation for your various physical activities _ surf, paddleboard, skis etc etc. Fishing ever get in your saltwater blood? If no, any particular reason?

Re: In the event of a shark encounter
Used to believe in the "shark body language" advice several have mentioned. Even put my feet up on the board (luckily it was less than knee high so on the old single fin mal) and let a four foot whaler mooch on close by in three feet of crystal water because he/she wasn't doing the narky, fidgety, t...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages
SOme environmental groups do themselves a disservice when they try to use northern hemi problems as ammo for their campaigns here. Case in point: short finned makos. They are in pretty crook shape in the Atlantic and Med etc, so these groups used that issue to demand a ban on all fishing for em in O...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages
Navy divers must now use a shark shield when swimming in the harbour. Yak fishos who got nudged by a big GW off Long Reef now use em and claim they've had a few do a U-turn when they came into range. When I used to gamefish it was interesting seeing the behaviours of various species as they sniffed ...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages
Great Whites don't bonk or give birth at Hawks Nest. It and north end of Stockton are however aggregation areas for juvenile great whites. Juvenile GWs do attack people. On the east coast at least surfers are far more likely to be attacked by juvenile GWs than big mummas; see last summer/autumn's su...
