Re: new way to fish G-land perhaps? shearer?
Hiya Marcus no old SOTs at Gland? Maybe if you getting their by boat hire one in Bali and bring with you?
Amazing what bringing a few tough lures with you for the locals can do. They love their fishin. Have fun.

Dreamland carpark heavies
Was just yaking with a friend who lives in Bali. Her mum's visiting and she took her on a tour up the Bukit. They had a driver she uses often and booked him for the day. They pulled into the carpark and a heavily tattoed local said the driver could not wait for them if they walked down to the beach ...

Re: new way to fish G-land perhaps? shearer?
Float tube and sharp reef possibly not the best mix. Earlier this year found a small stretch of rocks five mins paddle in a SOT yak from home which has big kings (can't fish from the rocks, too low, so it's a boat or a yak). Long story short, a metre long king will tow a yak until the king smashes y...

Re: Injuries
Congenital spinal problem means I've had two surfs in 12 months. I know what you mean about mental torture.
Bad thing is, I now almost don't miss surfing. That's scary.

Bunch of killers were off Terrigal yesterday. Came and shadowed a fishing boat before getting bored and leaving. We'll be seeing more and more of them.

semi finless by bonzer
Think I been reading too much Mr Shearer and finless mayhem in the desert. Anyone taken out the middle fin of a five fin bonzer for laughs and tried semi-finlessness on one?

Re: 83BL Chilli board
Just looked at the pics of the Chilli; jogged the brain some more and remember mate's board also a single flyer. Actually looked pretty damn similar outline to Chilli just heaps thicker. Fook, now remember it was 6 foot, maybe 6'1" and he took it on a chicken boat Indo charter back then too and I re...

Re: 83BL Chilli board
Mate had one in very early 80s, a backyard jobbie, think from a fella from Curly, and I rode it a fair bit a when we shared a house and he was off at work :) . If I remember right, seemed v similar to the feel of a later shallow concave board. Do remember I really liked it. The channels were quite s...

Re: Foreign Correspondant: They Paved Paradise
Got a friend who's lived there, on and off, for several years. Lots of contact with Balinese. She says they love that their kids can be educated now, that their babies are less likely to die from lack of access to decent health care. They know foreigners are only leasing their land. She said most of...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over
Yup, been the summer/autumn of big kings here. Don't know where the rats are. We scored eight, with seven over the metre, in one session beginning last week. Best was impressive 1.2m. Kept three. Slimeys only bait they wanted. Had a newby on board and it's the first time I've actually seen someone a...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over
Enforced dryness lasted longer than expected. But, finally, had a few surfs last few day, on the Campbell Bros 7'2" bonzer five fin egg "return to the water board". Only midlengths I've ever mucked around on have been classic cheapo "funboards": mate's wives eight footers (with pretty flowers on em)...

Re: Contests - The Future.
"Surfboards will be made of a substance called Ultra-Glass that waxes itself and emits a deep echoey hum in the barrel," Not just a hum, and not just in the barrel. The board will emit note prefect sounds like a piano or violin or guitar (chosen by the rider, maybe triangles for the less musical sur...

Coolest wettie ever?
Been watching some of the MP footage which has surfaced since his death. An all black, long sleeve springuit like he favoured is the coolest wettie ever I think. Just something about them. Or maybe those who used them: Saw some footage of Peter Crawford in the 70s also wearing same style of suit. Th...

Re: Surf/Weather - what's coming Mar/Apr?
Another omen: we've been scoring big kings (metre plus) in really crappy water, consistantly. Got eight (with only one under a metre) a few days ago in water no self respecting kingie would normally be seen in. Seems they've given up waiting for clean warm water this summer/autumn. They've even cont...

Re: Unusual surf injury, or not?
It happens everywhere!!!! From a Pommie surfing website, bloke talking about his little brother, whose finger tip was held on only by a blood vessel and a few nerves. Previous post explained they were surfing numb cold mid winter and had wettie gloves on: He was at the shore in knee deep water and h...
