Re: Ask Carroll
this reminds me of one of the great ironic segues in "Catch-22", a marvellous book by Jospeh Heller The anti-hero Yossarian is in the hospital and next to him is an empty bed. Pinned to the end of the bed is a chartfor thrsoldier who is supposed to be in the bed. The name on the chart is "A Priori"...

Re: Ask Carroll
Nick, I have a technical question about surfing preparation. Yesterday I was surfing some pretty wild waves down around Torquay. The sweep meant I'd get a couple of waves then paddle in, run up the beach and jump in again. I did this around 5 or 6 times. However as I ran I found that my wetsuit (a 4...

Re: Advice for a 3rd board
With all due respect, intermediate surfers don't require three shortboards. I disagree with that Andy. I have a fat twinnie fish for the small stuff, a 5'8 as my normal stick and a 6'0 for when it's cranking. I wouldn't use any of them outside of those parameters. * I actually have another 4 boards...

Re: Yoga/Surf Fitness
If you want to get surf fit, start swimming lots of freestyle laps in the pool. The main thing that will get you tired is the constant paddling. If you get tired of paddling you're not even going to be able to get back out for another wave, let alone paddle fast enough to catch one. Second to that ...

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"
Captain on a 32 litre board where is the waterline up to if you had the board level in the water under you? When paddling the nose of the board barely breaks the surface, usually stays just under. When sitting on the board the water is around chest line. It is EPS/epoxy mind you... That's about whe...

Hey Jarryn, I think I saw a story about your your work in the Addy recently.
I was thinking that the amount of work that goes into each piece is fcuking amazing and that what you get looks like something machine printed.
Nice shot of RAAFs too

Re: surfing tips and tricks.
from observation and experience the thing most easily fcuked up and remedied by the average recreational surfer is the take-off. Carroll deals with the technique capably in his book . Alot of surfers are weak in the middle and this makes for a slow and clumsy pop-up. Do these two exercises and you ...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.
1) focus on maintaining consistent speed and flow and just let the "moves" take care of themselves 2) dont follow fads or try and "fit in" (go and find your own truth) 3) be as aware and relaxed as you can possibly be (physically and mentally) 4) take off deeper, paddle in earlier, and surf tighter...

Re: Ask Carroll
I will try to answer that with a question - why are you asking me? You already know what you want to do to your deck animal chin. This knowledge may be hidden from you, but it lies within. A small kernel of truth concealed within the nutshell of your stubborn uncertainty. Look within I say. I never...
