Re: Longboard disgust

Doesnt your question pre suppose that a less skilled person on a shortboard will actually do a better job than they would on a longboard? I would have thought that, having finally caught a wave after several weeks of attempts, a learner would be more likely just to fall off when trying to turn a sho...

Have you had a look at the Grant Miller or Mark Richards boards? I'm sure they could refine them up a bit more if you wanted.

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"

yeh but the modern surf world hi-jacked the term 'fish' to describe any board with a wide point forward of middle and flatter rocker. actually what would be the real term for those boards? Or any board with a swallow tail = fish (edit: according to the modern surf industry) To add to the confusion ...

Its not altogether close to where the concert is, but the YMCA in the city ('Y Hotel Hyde Park') is pretty good value. There are a range of rooms depending on how much you want to pay or whether you want to have your own bathroom (or even share a room with 6 other backpackers...). Its a hostel, so i...

Basically all of them involved a pack of pissweak mongrels trying to belt someone who they assumed was in no position to defend themselves. One of my friends years ago (in the 90s) was the self defence instructor at ADFA. Give teenage guys a bit of combat training, a bit of group think psychology (...

Nick, with Gerard Butler pulling out of a remake of the "1991 classic surf thriller Point Break" (as Bohdi, the Patrick Swayze character), are you the perfect alternative? Can surf, have actually been to Bells, given to sage remarks and apparently can fight pretty well. Might need to grow the hair a...

Re: half men need not apply

What if the weight was reduced to, say, 2-3kg? Match with a light epoxy and its going to be fairly normal - not for a high performance short board for sure, but for a mid length/longer board. Small battery progress and all of that advancement permitting. Anyway, I understand the reluctance for surfe...

Re: half men need not apply

What do people think about a board that is motorised to the extent of assisting the paddle out only - so perhaps a small motor that would push you along, but not at a speed that allows you to catch a wave, just maybe 50% of paddle out speed. Sort of like an electric bike that can do 10km/h but you n...

Re: mini mal fin advice.

You could try an FCS MF1 as a centre fin with bonzer/small fins on the side as a thruster. I use this on my 7ft4 board (my side fins are longboard side fins, so bigger than bonzer but smaller than thruster) for smaller waves. Although I have a fin box for the centre fin, so no idea whether that will...

Re: Age, diet, type 2 diabetes and you.

Have you had a look at the 'Wheatbelly' stuff (blog and book)? Hadn't heard of it before but I'll give it a read. I find with most of this stuff it's the agenda that shits me. It often starts out with something to hate on and presents a series of made up things that sound a bit logical as facts to ...

I'm not really convinced about the foundation of his argument, but the consequences of wheat and some grains on some people (for whatever reason) is certainly indisputable.

Re: Age, diet, type 2 diabetes and you.

For lunch - no need to cut all carbs. You can have thin wraps if you are interested in making the reduction. Or just have the stuff without bread as a salad. I tend to have a lot of hamburger patties plus cheese on top. Make them at home - $6 of mince gets you 3 lunches and takes about 10 minutes. H...

You're probably right. I don't really read the magazines (sorry) unless they're bought for me by someone else. Re: Age, diet, type 2 diabetes and you.

How do you know if someone is on a paleo diet? They will tell you.... Ok, as part of my job I get interested in diets and there is no doubt that paleo (or, really, high protein/medium fat/low carb) is excellent for weight loss and associated problems - diabetes, joint pain etc. I'm suspicious of the...
