Re: Climbing Mt Fuji

haven't been to fuji. mates who did it said it was harder than expected, and temperatures changed a lot from start to finish. in tokyo, have to go see the shibuya intersections in peak hour. will trip you out. roppongi if you are into that sort of thing. good normal bars too. akihabura (sp?) - elect...

Re: World First

as far as i understand, it works by measuring the wave height from a vidcap in pixels, then using the distance from the camera and some trig they work out the height. can't see how it would work at all well unless it was perfectly perpendicular, so swell direction will be pretty critical. i'd want i...

Re: Ului

trev, fong, digger, donweather: if you're thinking of the same spot I am, then send me a PM or email. I'm interstate now but spent a lot of time around there, and can point you in the direction of some less (in)famous spots that won't be crowded. I can't get there, but that doesn't mean this system ...

Re: C - Drive Fins

looks like a cutaway fin, only for a fin system instead of a finbox. can't see why it wouldn't work. i love smallish (6-7.5 in) cutaways in my small single and 2+1s. not big on the terminology so might be using the terms out of place, but you get the drive from the depth, but can turn a lot better i...

Re: short arm short leg wesuit in Indo - too hot?

make sure you drink enough if you wear the springy, it can be easy to get heat stroke if you go for a long surf.
you'll be surprised how warm the water is, and how much of a difference it makes...

Re: Seal in the surf at North Avalon last night

seals freak me out in the surf! not because of what they eat, but because of what eats them.. they don't get out of the way when you ride towards them, just stick up their big dopey-looking head and blink at you as they ruin your wave. kind of like bondi most mornings... saw a group of teenagers mes...

i was thinking you guys were a bit over the top, but having clicked through i think it got off lightly. no wonder they all move to sydney, if that was an epic day i'd take up street-SUPing "You now owe me 3 minutes 20 seconds" you made it to the end? 20 secs in i was feeling physically ill

Re: What's the largest wave you've ridden?

biggest on a bodyboard was a lot bigger. don't ask me to measure it, I'll just annoy Iggy. It was at Nungas in Sumbawa, around the corner from Lakey Peak. We arrived at night and the swell was apparently 10-12 foot that day. The noise of the swell kept us awake a fair bit (thinking WTF are we doing ...

Re: What's the largest wave you've ridden?

biggest on a surfboard was about 2 1/2 times overhead, but that was on a reef in south california (about 9th st del mar for those who know the area) that was pretty mellow for the size. more of an open face, but the speed was astounding, especially on a 9'1" high-per longboard! Had only been standin...

Re: Whats the LONGEST wave you've ridden?

a large sandbar in central QLD. the swell has to be cyclone big, it has to squeak between the top of Fraser and the bottom of the reef, and the tide has to be right, and the takeoff in the mouth can be very sharky. but if it all comes together, and you have a board with a bit of volume and length, y...

Re: Worth a few cents...

BD, you can use the following to check out the way prices have changed. Whack in the price and the year, and it will tell you what it would cost now. http://www.rba.gov.au/calculator/calc.go Actually shows that surfboard prices have increased faster than the index. Not quite that simple though, too ...
