Re: The essence of surfing is boldness

allow me to translate:
people wanting rules and systems to get waves are soft
surfers shouldn't be soft
i can't get waves because I'm soft, therefore all young people should piss off

or, alternatively:
i'm a cnut
surfers should be cnuts
except if they are young cnuts

Re: What's to be done with SUPs

Be careful what you wish for, steve. After the accident at currumbin there is/was a proposal to classify all surfboards as vessels Ostensibly to make right of way simpler, but I'm sure rego crossed their mind Somewhat ironically, that would increase the political power of surfers so that they would ...

We've been down this road before, Nick. Noone said that they don't make good products. Noone said that they shouldn't be rewarded for their product development. My current sealed steamer is excellent, and I would have been willing to pay a lot more than I had to in order to obtain it. You want the t...

Re: Buying land

Hope you can pull it off Digger. Josh would know more about setting up a container as a shaping bay, but I would've thought they'd be pretty hard things to cut in half? Reckon you'd be better off using the container for one or the other (guess glassing) and make a shed for the other. ah, don't mind ...

Re: Just Flew Back From North San Diego and...

yeah, I can see the similarity. For mine it's more like a mix between Sydney and Brisbane. Sprawl, car-centric, patches of nice older stuff replaced by cookie-cutter crap. But then it has the harbour. Whereabouts in North County were you? Differs greatly by suburb. La Jolla is full of 1%ers, big pha...

fixed to the wall, or free standing? I'm in the planning process of renovating a carport/storage area. Think my boards will go horizontally either in the rafters or under the raised floor (about 1m off the ground). Just simple horizontal wooden beams like those above, they're all in bags. Don't like...

Re: Surfin big waves is easier than

depends if it's the same size board...could get tricky designing a 5'10" paddle-in board for Mavs.

how big? the waves...

Hardest thing for me is the patience and timing of delaying the bottom turn in bigger waves. Get that right and things normally go okay.

Lived over there for a while Offshore, it was great. Often offshore, too. Planning to go back at some stage. My wife learnt to surf at Scripps pier, was great before they pulled down Surfside and you could get a hot shower. Surfed a fair bit at Blacks and Cardiff Reef. (Blacks is a little south of t...

Fin cluster preference differences

I've found that in quads I seem to like relatively large front fins and smaller trailers, whereas in thrusters designed for the same size waves I prefer medium fronts and a large centre fin. Now, my theory is that in the quads I am actually using the front fin (and a more forward point of the rail l...

Don't drag me into your catfight. Braithy, I wasn't claiming local status, nor saying it was a secret spot. I wrote it in bold as a joke, yelling at someone who was liable to shit themselves if startled. Thought a wise owl like yourself might have got that one. If I was really trying to keep it a se...
