They can get in the way if you are moving up and down a longboard.

I watch a bit of the WSL comps. I used to watch a lot of it. I have never given the WSL a moment’s thought when I go for a surf. It has zero impact on my surfing experience, unless they are partially responsible for crowded surf breaks.
