Re: Chopes 2016

For a second there I thought you were serious (emoticons set me straight), and that perhaps I was not being critical enough of his surfing today. I say we start a campaign for Tahiti to host the 2024 Olympics. Guarantees surfing will be at Chopes. Just as much chance as a 52 year old bald American t...

Re: Chopes 2016

Would love to see him in the title mix. He'll be carrying a 25th with him. But a few more wins would help.
Hope Wilko can bounce back too.

Chopes 2016

May as well try to generate some Q&A from such crap conditions. 1) Is Wilko gone for the year? 2) Will the yellow rashie change hands by the end of the comp (JJF needs 5th, Medina 2nd to claim it)? 3) Can Kai take down Medina in round 3 to nullify the previous suggestion? 4) Will the weather gods ba...

Re: Olympics

I assume qualification for the Olympics is open to a lot of new countries if they have a surfer meet the Olympic standards (which may not be linked to the WSL tour at all). I think they should allow the token gumby (not me) into the field like they have before. Remember "Eric the Eel" from the Sydn...

Re: Olympics

Or just not spend 2 billion for every one of them It really is a Cnut of an act, particularly for poor countries. Imagine being an athlete in a bus on your way to your event and seeing people who don't have sewerage of running water sitting in the street. Id feel like a bit guilty to be honest Yep....

Re: Olympics

That's the risk for sure. While I'll still watch it as a fan of the sport and out of curiosity as to how it goes in the Olympic spotlight, I'm still a traditionalist when it comes to the Olympics. ie. I believe it should purely be about the core endurance events such as running, swimming, track & fi...

Olympics

Surfing in the next Olympics. Good/bad/don't care? Assuming all the pros would be eligible (as per other pro sports), unless there is a WSL contract clause that says otherwise. Although given the WSL site is "celebrating" this move, can't see them blocking the pros from entering. Crap conditions wou...

Yellow against dark water would no doubt create more contrast than a darker colour (notwithstanding sun glare)

Yellow boards and sharks

Hi folks, Do yellow boards really attract sharks or is that just hyped up bullplop? I know this theory was thrown around after Mick's Jbay episode last year, and even more so when he immediately changed to blue boards. My son wants his next board to be sprayed yellow all over. I don't want to turn h...

Re: Waxing the tail pad

Thanks for the insight GSTQ. Didn't know it was that common. Still seems weird to me. Why stick on a tail pad if its not going to give the grip you need? Keeps the tail pad sponsors happy I suppose. I've just had a great idea for a new invention. Tail Pad Wax! Special secret formula (ie. normal surf...

Re: Waxing the tail pad

Well perhaps that's his pre heat ritual as well, but fortunately they didn't televise that (and it obviously didnt help his result). However just to clarify, I was referring to rubbing surfboard wax on the surfboard's tail pad. Saw him doing this in the locker rooms when they filmed him before the f...

Waxing the tail pad

Noticed Julian waxing his tail pad before the Margies final. Well at least I assumed it was wax as he'd been waxing his board at the same time and I don't now what else you'd want to rub on a tail pad.
Does anyone else do this?

Ahh ok.
Mikey Wright. Was just excited that he smoked DeSouza in round 1.
However the Wilko call isn't looking so crazy after all.
