Re: Ask Carroll
I know what you mean, I used to play golf with a bloke who had the most diabolical swing Iv ever seen. He went and got a bunch of lessons from a pro, who got him to keep his arm straight, strengthened his grip and had him rotate properly through the ball. A couple of months later old mate was havin...

Re: Midlengths
What is it with Geoff Mcoy and massive volume? a mate of mine has a heap of them and they are all so thick that duckdiving in not an option. He has a 9' mal that is 4" thick and you have to ride the thing like a Canadian lumberjack rolling logs down a river. Odd.

Re: JS Revolution
Pretty good, some minor deck dents in the front foot area, that's it. It was the shop owners board, he was too heavy for it -96kg! Anyway, looking forward to riding it.

Re: Volume
Ok, lets put our 3 pages of knowledge together and design my ideal board. My dims: 70kgx5'7'x58yrs average surfer, aka: can do frontside reo's (sort of) and can surf in the pocket is the wave is not too quick. So I'd like around 31-33ltrs, 6'1"x19x15/8" roundtail thruster. The deck will be domed to ...

Re: Volume
I mentioned somewhere before about board weight and fin size. I said something like "I had two Merrick biscuits with the same dims but one was wood and slightly heavier. It required G5 fins whereas I used 3's in the PU one". There was a discernible difference in the way the boards turned, which I pu...

Re: Volume
At the end of the day volume effects buoyancy, where its distributed and how much there is. 40ltrs is a lot of buoyancy in a 5'10" but not much in a 9' mal.

Re: Step Downs
JSREVOCUST-JS-INDUSTRIES-1.jpg bourton.jpg Be wary of the Bourton ones with the cathedral hull in the nose. I don't recon they work that well in NSW beachies. A mate has one sitting in the garage after trying to make it work for 12 months and finally giving up and buying the JS revolution 6'1" whic...

Re: Step Downs
Nice post oldman, I think the step up/down thing is, as Steve says, a marketing tool but I see it as less manipulative and just a term of reference ie: similar volume but shorter and flatter for step down or similar volume but longer and more bite from pintail for step up? I also had a similar exper...

Took this picture of a whale out the front. It appears that she uses Roys BLEF template and doesn't mind showing them off.

There is no easy way Tonks, my daughter has just got a job in Eden so I guess I'm gonna be testing myself at Merimbula bay sometime in the future.
