review of Mccoy Astron Zot
G'day fellow alternative surf craft freaks, thought I would share my thoughts on the ZOT - payback for all the great reviews etc that I have feasted on over the last year... THE NEED Due to my love of high volume short boards I have been devolping a Mccoy fetish. I have had a couple of Nuggets and a...

Re: Fat Bullet review
I think this shape would work well for any intermediate or better surfer. If you surf well and are lighter/ younger or just fit then a smaller Fat Bullet - a 6' or 6' 2" may be the go - but the whole range are wide. I guess thats what I was after as I wanted a fish style board (and associated advant...

Fat Bullet review
After enjoying reading the thoughts of others on their new rides - thought I should post my impressions of my new bourton Fat Bullet. THE NEED I was after a go to board for my local beachie – a go to board for 2-4ft, with essential abilities to help spice up shite slop days. I have a couple of other...

Re: Boards snapped in half...
I wish I had read Emp's 'diamond shape' method post before my 'Fibreglass butchery'. I did a thick band, two layers of cloth - lots of resin. Thought I would let it dry - it would be real strong - and I would sand it back as required. One hour of sanding later - I realised that I went way overboard....

Re: Boards snapped in half...
Thanks MP you inspired me to give it a go - have now glassed over the break - about a 10 cm band 80% around the board. Looks solid - plan to let it cure then sand it back - Then spray (good tip). Feels real solid so touch wood it will hold and the extra weight will not matter. Cheers OG

Boards snapped in half...
What to do? Two questions: 1) I went for a walk to check out the surf @ my local vantage point - and what should be sticking out of the green council wheelie bin but a bourton 6'4" x 20 x2 3/8 HPR. On further inspection it had been snapped 30 cm down from the nose glass on the top side intact, and b...

Re: Greg Webber Mini-Fish twinnie
Great report Cpt - did they let you keep the Demo Board for a week or two? very generous. You wrote: Overall impression: This board really was a whole lot of fun and made small waves much more fun with the extra speed and drive (once I could find how to surf it). This fun didn't stop when the waves ...

Re: Where to live.... On the Sunshine Coast. Noosa or Moffat's?
Hi M powered - i was faced with a simular choice 4 yrs ago - I am from SE Qld originally so easier chioce for me (my folks live at Moffats) - but work took me away - 4yrs Sydney (Bra), then 5 years Melb. Had kids - life incredibly hectic - mass stress - decided to move to the coast and chill a bit -...

Re: First Quadfin.....feedback.
Great looking board Steve, good to see your appetite for quiver expansion is as large as ever :D . Please give us an update when you have given it a few more goes - and sussed it on both lefts and rights. I just picked up a simular machine (little taller, little fatter - like me  ), only had on...

Re: Mr chunky
Go for it Mr Beer - my mate wanted to learn how to surf (he's 40 yrs old- but good athlete/fit); advised him to get a simular shape to what you describe to get max waves with great stability. gave him the names of a few shapers well known for 'more foam'. After chatting with Grant Miller he ended up...

Re: Greg Webber Mini-Fish twinnie
Hi Cpt - Thanks for the link - enjoyed seeing Greg's latest - Christ he can put out some great ideas and market them well - the vid had me throthing and convinced I need one! However what stopped me was that my new 'average out the front beachies' board with its own bells and whistles arrived the ne...

Re: Stigmata
ric - stretching this topic a bit - but what does this say to you about the ideal glass job to get if you want your custom to be a keeper? My brother just had a 4X4X4 glassed off the rack Bourton (which he loved in terms of shape and how it went) - develop a crease about 50 cm long after about 5 wee...

Re: Stylish Single Fin Surfer - is it the board?
Thanks all for the input - I think I have a single fin fever, and am off to get a copy of Storm Riders with Kongs Island . Steve - I remember when you got your Thornton Fallander single fin - that must have been 95 or 96 - I was living up the road with Sab - in fact I had a go on it, but you had jus...

Stylish Single Fin Surfer - is it the board?
After some views on the pros of a single fin for bigger days out front or nice point days- I have been thinking about this for a while, but was spun out buy a guy surfing at National Park - Noosa last week. It was 3-4 foot mid week reasonable crowd but plenty of quality waves and nice vibe in the wa...

After several hours on this site...
Spent a whole night last week (sad I know :) ), reading up everyones thoughts on board size- dimensions - and pro's and cons of volume over agility. Plus looking at dimensions of other boards suitable for an Old Grom (ie: Grant Miller's boards; Bourtons Bats; McCoys etc). This was followed by a nigh...

Well its gone....
Thanks for you input - it has helped me make a decision - the Merrick is gone! After surfing beachies the last two mornings I am sure that this board is best suited to powerful long lines - rather than the dumping mixed bag that is my local break. Natho - I was informed about about the need to gener...
