Re: The Morning of the Earth DVD

Well KKK one great thing is looking at the footage and knowing you can do that stuff too i.e. gingerly cutback followed by a ginger re entry. One of my particular favorite parts of the movie is when the old fruit stall guy hands over a big slice of cabbage for the travelling hippie/surfies to try. N...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Has anyone ever bought a wetsuit from the US. I see that the Ripcurl EBomb are about $150 cheaper there? Bought two a couple of years ago. I was going to buy my son one because he was growing quickly and they didn't seem like they would last a season. The price was so cheap on Amazon at that stage ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Yep, soaking up the sun après surf with no shirt on. Went to get petrol about 40 minutes ago and it was 21 degrees :-? Yesterday was the shortest day of the year wasn't it? Got a good fast one when I first went out. Still not quite low. It held from out the back and I thought I was going to fly thro...

Re: Neal Purchase Jnr Quartet

Neal Purchase jnr is a decent bloke and quite genuine and a good surfer but a lot of the boards in that video look like they'd be a nightmare for your average pommy expat flapping around at south maroubra. But whatever his kids have gotta eat too. I think your average backpacker would aspire to do ...

Re: Ask Carroll

In some ways the take up by fuel here reflects the larger reality that if you live in a coastal environment Surf comps have range of reference but if you like in Dakota it's a passing curiosity like running snowboarding on Brisbane TV.

New towns quite interesting for a view of the passing parade. Coffees not as uniformly good as you might expect but there's a lot of food places and wall to wall hipsters.

Re: Yoga/Surf Fitness

Go for your life mate. Bondi is full of people like you. The more I watch these people the more I understand that its the other bits of surfing that make all the difference. Not so much catching the wave but understanding how a surfboard reacts in the water generally. How to duck dive, pull back on ...

Re: Yoga/Surf Fitness

I would hook up with a good SUP Yogic instructor. That way you can practise your yoga while you try to surf on an SUP. it's a win/ win.

Re: Building the ultimate trendy Mid-Length.

Is the green one a bonzer as well tootr? I've got something very similar in plan shape and length on the way, but thruster/quad. Beanpole wouldn't you have dulled the fins a bit after the first cut? I sliced my thumb open on a plastic M7 just putting my board in the car, then took to them with some...

Re: Ask Carroll

Yeah, nick. Were you moonlighting at Bondi in the eighties?
I mean editing surfing mags in the US would be tame compared to the internal politics of Bondi 80s surf culture.

Didn't really think about going out at low tide. Fun session at high tide.
For some reason I've seen quite a few learners go over the falls lately. Just sitting there or paddling sideways.

Re: Building the ultimate trendy Mid-Length.

Noice.
Would be pretty keen on one of those if I hadn't snared a new board off gumtree already.

Wicked gash. My Al Merrick Fish had the sharpest set of quad fins I've ever had. Seriously did my heal in quite a few times just brushing against them.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Bondi today was breaking exactly the same as Thursday Evening. Exactly as crowded with exactly the same number of drop ins and I caught exactly the same sort of fluky bigger wide right I caught on Thursday Evening as my one decent wave of the session. Only trouble was I stayed out far too long becau...

Re: Ask Carroll

Well you have to hand it to Pointbreak over BW in the cheesiness scale I reckon. Although I find some of that dialogue in BW almost cringeworthy. Nice surfing in parts though. I think I prefer the climax in Pointbreak. I find all that admiration and shaking of heads peculiarly American. Oh no a dang...
