So this summer, hot, humid, more storms / cyclones, and more rain?
in a nutshell basically. i think higgins stormchasers said something outlandish like 25 forecast cyclones in australian waters this summer.

that's eyepopping!

Re: La Nina 20/21

this is really nice isn't it. i could get quite used to in here.

the la nina i'm thinking of was before the 2010/11 shep ... I had my torn achilles that year and moved to angourie in late 2010. around there was really fun. some big crisp days at backbeach too.

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

Steve, my man, im advocating for nuance. You're also using the Trump logic for climate change denial. "Nah it was cold in my town, therefore its a hoax". Your only proof for argument comes from attacks alone. Not the possible 100s of sharks that aren't pinged and don't attack and are essentially in...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

the theory is, like most creatures in this world... is that sharks each have their very own unique personality. so yes, some will be grumpy, others angry, others chill like bob marley. some will even have a sense of humour. like this chap off costa rica back in the 80's. when obviously the weed was ...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

back at the turn of the century when i was with surfrider ... the pressure we applied to have them taken down was immense. it made council where they voted on it. from memory it wasn't even close the count, to keep them up. but gold coast will always make $$ orientated decisions, and there's no high...

Re: La Nina 20/21

you got any recollection of the last one shep? my memory is hazy, but i feel like the banks were always in a constant state of being fucked. ripped out and gutted, all the action out on the back storm bar into a big wide & deep gutter. bit spooky. i do remember the super bank came of age, and damon ...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

yeah, can't see QLD pulling those nets, or at least not without replacing them with drums. I just find it ironic that people say there will never be a cull because of popular opinion when there has been a culling program in place for 60 years. humans rarely like to face the extent of their actions....

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

people have been tirelessly fighting those nets since their inception, for that reason. the gov don't want to reduce their tourism rev, though. in all the attacks, by memory everything i've ever read is it was one bite attacks? just much bigger sharks doing it in the west? maybe that swimmer at cott...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

when i said deeper water, i only meant deeper than the surf gutter. like the schools of fish bombora talked about (see below) way out back a long long way from a breaking wave. i'm not sure inshore fish stocks are thriving? in regard to nick's attack, and many like it -- the WA one's especially. whe...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

if humans were being eaten and no or little remains left behind ... then you're argument would hold weight. they are not. they're being bit once, and released straight away.

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

pip maddison (@sharkgirlmaddison) makes a good point about shark mitigation. we're still using technology and methods from the 1930's ... yet research and studies and what we know about shark behaviour has increased infinity from then. the qld gov declaring two tiger's have been caught & destroyed ...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

it's like teeth with teeth. i remember talking to my mate from school who's now a professional fisho up north ... the protection of salt crocs is now at the point where whole biodiversity up there is in threat. too top heavy on the apex side. he thinks a croc season, where for a month or two people ...

So back zips have improved in the last 5 years or so, then?
Nah they're the still the gumby's choice of wettie. they leak water, they tight in places, loose in others.

it's like someone offers you a porsche (chest or zipperless) to drive, but you much rather stay on your scooter (back zips).

that shark stayed in virtually the same spot for hours, even when the chopper tried to scare it off. It came back to the same spot, within just a few metres, the next day, and again stayed put.
And from that day on the shark was affectionately known as "Sharkpole"
