Re: Kelly's wave.
I've tried to find a similar sport to compare with; it is maybe similar to skaters who stay in the same park their whole lives, but even they have the benefit of different objects and runs etc. Maybe the same half-pipe? . playing a golf course vs a driving range. You are still hitting the golf ball...

Re: Kelly's wave.
oldman invokes Baudrillard  ... soul surfing and the natural divide...taking a few sets on the head... maybe i've missed something here, but what's the beef with wave pools? what? the fiscal imperatives? so they're the pornhub of the local beachie! I thought that bringing in a post-structural...

Re: Kelly's wave.
Steve helped me get my fin money back as did many here. Webber did nothing to help me (to be fair, i never asked him for help) - but i'm siding with Steve.

mine was a five - i regret selling it. I'd only use a few times a year, but always loved the speed.

Re: Midlengths
What a difference a fin makes. I got a new midlength back in April - a gato heroi space pig 7'6 with a narrowed down tail. It has super thin rails and a big rolled v underneath. First few surfs, was not feeling it. Felt like it was dragging an anchor and board just didn't turn. Shelved it most of wi...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
It's currently about 2ft or so in the illawarra... Haha drove home via the beaches as usual and didn't see much. This arvo is supposed to pick up though I think, going by the forecast. Warilla had something breaking in front of the clubhouse. Port had bugger all and blown to bits as you'd expect. M...

Re: Fin Construction
I wish i could tell the difference - but i don't think i can in thrusters and quads. Other than size and shape, plus weight - i find it difficult. I can feel the difference in single fins though - especially volan.

Re: Midlengths
I really like having a mid length in the quiver - especially in summer. The first one i got was a vbowls a few years back and it really changed my line of thinking. It was stringerless so i could foresee a disaster in anything over a few feet - i got rid of it. Most recently i was riding a hull. Cer...

Re: Modern Planing hulls
Yeah i keep hearing how wide it is - but compared to some i've ridden, it pales in comparison. I really like it as an all rounder and it goes well in bigger waves too. Not as fast as other boards i've ridden, the CV2 comes to mind, but maybe faster than your average HPSB. I got it because i was comp...

Re: Modern Planing hulls
For sure - that's what i did with a few i've had, but the sci fi was really fussy. I tried all my usuals, but just found the board was not really drivey enough. Went with quad - it got better, but was shoulder hopping. After many years on quads, i've gone back to thrusters, which seems to be better ...

Re: Modern Planing hulls
I'll give it a crack on a small day and get back to you. My gut feel is that with the wide tail and efficient bottom shape, it'll go well in small stuff. But around here though I normally get on the midlength or longboard in waves that small, I'd rather spend the time learning to nose ride. Especia...
