Re: Jetstar to Bali

Remember reading about Richard Harvey being knocked back on a board. He had shaped it to take to an anniversary of being first to surf Padang Padang.
A bit rough.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

The wave I was thinking of was a v big fat peak that someone took off on. It looked like a left but the guy went right proning out down the big fat face. It kept building but I thought he was going to just prone it in towards shore. Then all of a sudden he stood up. He was three quarters of the way ...

Well if blisterplaster bowman can withstand an initial spray in good humor then he will conitinue posting. If not its probably best if he finds that out early.

Oops, as you can read in that link it was the Australian Titles at the Mornington Peninsular rather than WA. I was in that Schoolboys Comp in 1974. Dudded out in the semis as per usual :-o

Re: mctavish boards

Total board porn. Love to have one but the carver fish and a few other mid lengths are far more practical. A good mate had one back in the day. Seemed a bit fat for up our way. That was in the era of very refined Kirra eyed shapes e.g. Channels and thin bladey designs with trailer fins hanging right...

Re: Ask Carroll

Yep, saw the Doco and the show afterwards at the Opera House. Truly great concert. Really glad to see he's getting together again. It's been a tough ride for the everyone. He was making $200 a week with his band The Strand up at Mermaid Beach when he was in year 11. Big money in those days for a stu...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I've seen heaps more good waves at Deadies than at the Southy. Probably checked the Southy more often over the years but I'm actually struggling to remember one decent ride I've seen there. I've seen someone get completely poleaxed out at Wedding Cake. Really freaky wave. Seen heaps more good waves ...

Re: How to protect wounds from infection

Excuse me, did you say BLISTERPLASTER? Yes BLISTERPLASTER the always handy dressing available this week at only $39.99, yes that's right $39.99. Dunno never used the stuff. Waterproof band aids seem to work okay but the problem is more specific to coral and the tropics I reckon. Antiseptic powder an...

Re: Ask Carroll

There was a photo on Coastalwatch a while ago with the team. He was next to Rabbit. Still a youngster at that stage. Pete Sanotti who is my age if he's still kicking was a reserve and his sister Jill Sanotti won the Women's that year I think. Kingscliff used to be part of the Queensland Comp even th...

Re: mctavish boards

Yep, love mine. 7ft. Wish I'd grabbed one for my last trip to Bali instead of the pile of poop I ended up buying. I could have snared a second hand one then but it had speed fins which put me off.

Re: Ask Carroll

Well I have many times and he used to be the full hypergrommet. Had the worst board and still used to go flat out on it. Kingscliff was and I guess if there's any beach left still is a rippy semi point break up toward the breakwater. You got waves by either out paddling the rip and everyone else or ...

The lifesavers in case I get into trouble by swimming in one of the dangerous rips. By the way why are all the dangerous rip signs only in English at Bondi?

Re: Red Bull Cape Fear - Cape Solander Surfing Comp

All environments are fragile to some extent but Cape Slander is a pretty rough place. All salt encrusted sandstone. Much more chance of someone being hurt there from falling off a cliff.
