Winter
Quiet Winter: Carroll.
Active Winter: Shearer
Place your bets gents.
And the long range charts are now translating some of that tropical indonesian infeed into potential ECL action.

Re: autumn
I think those creek or ICOLL breaks are a slightly different kettle of fish. They are more dependent on the run-off disturbing that longshore drift or build-up of sand more or less perpendicular to the prevailing sand flow. There is inshore and offshore movement of sand caused by storm events but ye...

Re: Ask Carroll
OK, fcuk it , I keep trying to sit down and write a meaningful question but it's not going to happen so I'll cut to the chase. Last year in your Horses essay you wrote about this retreat from the kind of hard core committment to surfing which had been the defining characteristic of your teenage into...

Re: autumn
hope so, but 2007 was characterised by a very calm, warm May. That allowed the settling of large sand slugs close to the Pointbreaks. All the winter ECL's of that season (save the last August one) formed south of Coffs Harbour. This pushed the sand slugs onto the Points. August's QLD ECL wiped out t...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty
Don't do it Fong. Stick to a shorty at all costs. Use the shorty to keep you motivated to maintain a level of fitness and skill. Once you go to the log it is downhill from there and your skill and fitness will probably get worse quickly. The log will do most of the work for you with less input from...

haha, Peter Helman. Legendary loose cannon. Well, gut feel is maybe worth something. One thing in Helmans favour: This area is incredibly sensitive to ENSO shifts, often displaying the characteristics of a certain state well before any official recognition. He would be observing this, as others do. ...

As we approach the predictability barrier for the ENSO state we are faced with a fascinating state. A sort of quasi Nina, with high chances for a negative IOD.

No disrespect Rancho, but anything goes gangbusters in QLD. Thats because it's not cold.
All you need is something to ward off the wind chill.

I bought the top of the line O and E leggy for G-Land and big surf at the Point. Strongest leash in the world.....the claim. Leash broke when new at G-land second wave. No dramas I had back-ups. Could be a bad batch. The shop replaced free of charge when I was back. Another near new OandE leggie: sn...

I caught the tuna on a 65g Raider.
Got another tuna (mack tuna) about 6kg couple weeks ago at 1pm on a metal.
It's all a learning curve.

I got that longtail at 11.15am. Fishing the tides. I'm not going to say what tides because I don't want these spots suddenly infested with beer drinking rednecks from Casino. It was SE 15-20knots. One of those crappy days with heavy rain squalls. I've caught more tailor at midday than dawn in the la...

you've got some really good tailor spots near you. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb195/lennox76/P1160927.jpg 5 bucks from BigW. Have to be this colour. Shallow divers work too. Metals work as well but I mostly fish the tides and not the time of day now, hence you need to work the deeper parts o...
