Re: Ding repairs. How much $?

Didn't you guys read the local shaper thread? Mates rates are a sure fire way to the business costing YOU money. My advice is to provide a top notch service and charge accordingly (heehee accorDINGly). If you do a repair that people are not just happy with, but one that they are stoked with and will...

Re: how long till- you can't buy a locally built board

How about the surf boutique, like this? http://www.surfculture.com.au/category/channell/page/4/ It seems to me that people have the money to spend, thats why McTavish charges high (ish) prices. Make them right and market them well and the money and people will come. I'm pretty sure boatbuilding is a...

Re: how long till- you can't buy a locally built board

Surfboard manufacturing is an industry that has no formal training or certification attached to it and no structured management of industry standards. Anyone can start a surfboard manufacturing business and start designing (sic) and building boards. Most (all?) shapers start out will no formal train...

I actually had a go on the thing and it goes a lot better than it looks, I'll post a pic sometime of the big green beastie with the mal sized loaded dome. Its still slow and heavy though.

Re: Will You Surf Alone and at First Light?

Pretty much do most days, I draw the line at dangerous and weird iffy surf rather than the sharks at dawn thing. I'v sat out there probly 300 morns out of 365, never seen a yakka, but i'm pretty sure they are there. Had schools of pilchards fleeing who knows what all around me on occasions.

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Nah, not a sunnyboy, I'm on the Mid North Coast just south of Port Mac. Your dims are correct for the Biscuit. It has a very flat rocker, which is good and bad as it will get you into waves much earlier as it has incredible paddling speed, but if its really sucky or small the wideish tail will want ...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

The MSF was ordered from California and is signed by Machado and AL Merrick, it lives on my wall when I'm not surfing it. It has a 6 on the bottom, two 6's on the deck and a gloss coat over a swirl gold resin tint spray. Its 2'12 yrs old and has been OS twice, it was also my only board for almost tw...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

I don't have a McCoy, but I have ridden a 6'6"nug. What I have is a 6'5" Merrick Machado single fin (MSF)- modern deep single into double into concave V bottom, and a 6'2" merrick Biscuit- same bottom shape/plan shape/rocker outline, but much sharper rails, especially in the tail area. I love the MS...
