Mid life crisis

Harley fully cashed in on the outlaw imagery and the mid life makeover crew have bought into that just like the seachangers have flocked to surfing as part of their lifestyle statement.

Clothing analogy

I was using the clothing/acc's analogy simply because these companies are the ones who do the most to promote surfing (lifestyle) and with their saavy marketing are bringing more people into the water in droves. That's the part I don't like. Marketing BS. :x That's when the newbies need a board. As ...

You think you know but you don't

Lamesville,
If you have a well thought out point of view then this will help people come around to your way of thinking or at least understand where you are coming from.
However telling others that their thoughts are crappolla and that they don't know anything is not really going to help anyone learn.

smw1

No argument on your posts smw1. As you can see I put in 2 links for Aussie made boards in my earlier post. For those who want to direct their venom at overseas made boards simply take the time to think about what really buggers up surfing. Usually the happiest people in the water are the learners. T...

Much to do about a new factory to make them on the Gold coast.
Next thing you know they are being made in Thailand.
Funny eh, Global surf industries, Surftech and Firewire all coming from the land of smiles.
I lived there for 11 yrs and back then you had to BYO surfboards.

Sure you can buy an inexpensive lighly glassed poly board shaped by R2D2 your soul-less factory made shaping machine right here in Australia.
Should you want to sample alternative board making technology though you have to pay a bit more. Surfing is still free.

the surf industry

If you want to cast a few well aimed stones around then look at Billabong, Quiksilver and Rip Curl. Which companies are most responsible for putting more people out in the line up? GSI or the big three? Look around you on the street. Non-surfers covered head to toe in surf clothing and accessories. ...

Fish fry variety

Now if a fish must have keels what do you have that everyone would find interesting and different from the usual fish shapes/outlines? The more interesting thing for me was some using different woods or carbon fibre rather than poly. Post some pictures here and I am sure the boards won't get dinged....

7S

I had a 6'3" when they first started appearing on our shores. Went ok in a straight line on my forehand but better on my backhand. As soon as it got 4' + it got squirelly. Really poor glass job. Heel dents were immediate and numerous. I got rid of it while I could unload it for a decent price. I und...

Weight

I was talking to a guy who has a 6'10" Bonga which is more of an egg shape and he is the same height/weight and a few years younger (87kgs/182cms/44 yrs- both surfing since groms). Reckons it floats him fine and he's ridden it in everything sizewise around the Sunshine coast. I saw a few of his wave...

The Bonga smoked

What a classic. LOL and LMAO.
Its strange how strongly I dislike both the 9'er and the 6'6" but really enjoy surfing the 7'6". That board was absolutely smoking across the Nationals walls.
Now the 8'er is relegated to the doghouse as well.

How's the Bonga go?

Speaking of thread revival's. I'm curious what Wanderer thinks of his Bonga 8'er after a bit of water has passed under it. I've ridden a 7'6" Bonga funboard for the last couple of weeks (gotta love the test drive boards) in 3-4' Nationals, 3-4' Maroochydore beacbreaks, 4' Corner (Alex) and 2' Kings....

Weir's

I'll stick my head in to see what Brian's got tomorrow am if he opens the shop. Be the only day of the week he looks more like a patriach than a spirit (covered in foam dust from fixing the dings out the back).

Simon's boards

I stand corrected on Simon's boards. My mistake.
No one is saying the Takayama is made in Thailand.
The interesting thing is whether Mr Takayama actually shaped it?

Takayama

Yep, learnt that one the hard way a couple of years ago when I bought a Webber afterburner thinking I was getting a hand shaped stockie. Wasn't until I was checking out the board at home I noticed a miniscule "Made in Thailand" sticker. I realise that Simon's boards are computer shaped/hand finished...

Takayama

If you do a bit of research one comes across the information that Takayama has ghost shapers doing most of his boards now.
Takes a bit of the sheen off.

I bought one of those M8R8 pieces of shit to trash over in Bali when the surf was too small (lucky I actually took it as the waves were very shit). It was an absolute dog, horrendous rails - i got it for $300 and flicked it $260 so its not all a bad story. Looking for a new board soon I think - my ...
