Re: surfing tips and tricks.

For anyone wondering the answer is yes! It is entirely possible to fall off WHILE attempting to perform the swiss-ball jack knife with push up on solid ground. Wait until you have sweaty hands and one slips and you face plant into the swiss ball, then rebound. Then fall off. Then the ball rolls ove...

Re: Woosley Vquad And Beachbeat Pacer Egg

Grant Miller 'specialises' in boards for older guys (and gals) Mark Richards makes some nice looking middle length boards as well. Both have websites. Grant is a much nicer/saner guy than his website may suggest! Not that it answers your question, but since you sort of made a general request these a...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

nah mate, that's a really bad idea that I see propagated quite frequently on the internet by beginners and intermediates. Watch the very best guys and you'll see the hands are roughly parallel under the chest always. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkGaJ8w0V1Y Ok, accepting that I'm not one of the ...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Alot of surfers are weak in the middle and this makes for a slow and clumsy pop-up. Do these two exercises and you will notice immediate improvement in your take-off/pop-up and surfing performance. http://www.menshealth.com/video/swiss-ball-jacknife-pushup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_RtMLvVZV...

Re: Building the ultimate trendy Mid-Length.

Some similarity yes. I've been doing this shape since 1999 in lengths up to 14'9" it also works well as a 6 footer. The tail is much narrower than a scorpion, the rails are less bulky through the centre, it has continuous single concave and more width. Yours look, aesthetically, infinitely better. ...

Re: Fiji 2014

Braithy, could you advise on the best weight for the following breaks Gland The superbank Bells beach Duranbah Your advice would be appreciated as you've obviously got it sorted. Assumng you are male, 72kg for all of them. Or whatever Mr Carroll weighs. For every extra kg you have, add 0.23l to you...

Re: Fiji 2014

I'll put it another way. If billaquik signed a young promising girl, let's call her Helena granchard. If she failed to meet her surfing/competition criteria/kpi but the companies clothing sales went through the roof because she looked great in a bikini, do you think they'd get rid of her?. Would or...

Re: Fiji 2014

Here are a few of my thoughts on the issue for what they are worth. Well said. Its not like these women dont enjoy/love surfing as much if not more than 'us'. Its not like they arent trying - perhaps they arent at a great level but why is that? Not because they spend their entire day shopping or be...

But let's face it, if some festival has invited you to talk about some subject you know a shit load about, it's never gonna be a huge effort to find something to say. As a random thought, someone who has chosen to make a career out of being a journalist/author is unlikely to have difficulties in te...

Longboarders all have jobs. You will never hear a longboarder complaining that the budget changes to the dole will affect them.

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"

There's also board weight. A lighter board will float better all other things being equal. Not by much though 5kg board minus 10% = 4.5kg. board 5kg lb. board plus 80kg rider = 85kg 4.5kg board plus 80kg rider = 84.5kg 10% less weight = less than 0.5% actual difference Its a 10% better bouyancy for...

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"

Each of these boards has 31 or 32l in volume. They range from 5ft3 to 6ft10. (they are all firewires because that site lists the volume for all their boards).

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"

Volume -- at least in the shortboards I ride -- is as important as any other dimension, imo. But you can have identical volume and totally different boards eg due to rocker or rails or fins or channel or any number of other things. This suggests that volume is only relevant if all else is equal or,...
