Re: the young clubbie killed at the aust titles on the goldy
don't think Gaths would work, pretty sure they only cover scratches, not impacts. maybe the lifejacket vest things that wakeboarders and towsurfers would help. but i don't think that is the issue. i fully recognise the skills involved in paddling those craft. even as a former flatwater kayaker, the ...

Re: Snapping boards in contests
Don't they have a caddy out there with a spare. I thought they used to do that, and certainly in some comps they have. don't know if the rules have changed recently, but the year before last at Sunset the announcer said they had to stop using caddies because they were getting lost out at sea. think...

Re: now i've seen everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Christ, and we thought SUPs were bad. in my defence, I was at least an hours boat trip away from any surfers, and a good 1/2nm offshore. the place has a strong tidal current that forces the groundswell to stand up. can be bloody hairy at times with standing waves 3 ft high. the bloke doing it at ti...

Re: Forecasting Vic
Living where I do at the moment I've got 90 miles of pretty much dead straight coast, surely there's something that would cause certain stretches of it to work better than others at different times? bgreen gives you some good pointers in their post. another idea is to find some old beach fishermen,...

haven't been to fuji. mates who did it said it was harder than expected, and temperatures changed a lot from start to finish. in tokyo, have to go see the shibuya intersections in peak hour. will trip you out. roppongi if you are into that sort of thing. good normal bars too. akihabura (sp?) - elect...

Re: World First
as far as i understand, it works by measuring the wave height from a vidcap in pixels, then using the distance from the camera and some trig they work out the height. can't see how it would work at all well unless it was perfectly perpendicular, so swell direction will be pretty critical. i'd want i...

trev, fong, digger, donweather: if you're thinking of the same spot I am, then send me a PM or email. I'm interstate now but spent a lot of time around there, and can point you in the direction of some less (in)famous spots that won't be crowded. I can't get there, but that doesn't mean this system ...

Re: C - Drive Fins
looks like a cutaway fin, only for a fin system instead of a finbox. can't see why it wouldn't work. i love smallish (6-7.5 in) cutaways in my small single and 2+1s. not big on the terminology so might be using the terms out of place, but you get the drive from the depth, but can turn a lot better i...

make sure you drink enough if you wear the springy, it can be easy to get heat stroke if you go for a long surf.
