don't really school, but can be in packs.
The lady on Amity got bitten by about 3 different sharks, they reckon.
I've seen groups of about 5 in pupping grounds.

Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp

And I agree with Kookster, the quest for the one-board-quiver is not a good idea. How many of us have one board? I sold off a few last year pending a move, but I've still got 3 in regular rotation, plus the wife's, plus another kept at a mate's place, plus 3 of my brother's at my disposal. How many ...

Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp

I'd say the longevity of vehicles in Australia has got a fair bit to do with tightarse owners and lax emission standards. There are a heap of heaps on the road. Anyone who doesn't think that car industries in other countries are subsidised has got their head in their arse. Detroit? Seem to remember ...

Re: snowboarding japan

Nozawa Onsen is probably where I'll go next, if I go back to Japan. Though with a fluent relative living there, the options are a bit broader. I got chased by the patrollers with gloves, I think it was at Goryu. Could have been 47. We got our passes pulled, which was a bit of a problem because they ...

Legion, from the previous chats, I think you'd like the Hakuba backcountry.
Exits are a bit tricky, but there are some amazing runs.

Re: snowboarding japan

stay on the main island. snow isn't as good, but the terrain is better. I've been in Niseko (December) and Hakuba One and surrounds(Jan-March). That was in 2001-2, which was a record season at the time. I think it was about 14m. One weekend we had 17 feet of snow, the whole mountain shut down for 2 ...

Re: Surfing Sydney Airport, early 1960s.

My grandma lived in Banks St, then Brighton, now Monterey. The name has resonance for me because of that. He was the star of the Cook voyage. The work he did in identifying and classifying the flora and fauna of this new world has virtually no parallels in biology/botany. The Cook voyage was a scie...

I formed an opinion based on a TV show, you have better info, but that wasn't what I was responding to.
Your experience would suggest that he isn't.

Really? The Australian Story episode made him seem like a total prick.
Perhaps amazing as in what he's overcome, but a tosser.

Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp

Govt will never let car manufacturing or steel production totally die in this country, nor will the yanks or brits let the same happen there, both industries will always be kept going for strategic defense reasons, How does this work, exactly? "Julia, I just heard that Indonesia is invading NT! Wha...

It's all about usage, Dug.
Used to be women were 50X less likely to be killed. Now it's down to 15x.

I blame Valerie Taylor.

Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp

In fact I think a good reason Surftech's have gone almost extinct is because the weight of internet opinion started to infiltrate the mainstream and people realised they were being sold lemons. Thats one thing furniture makers etc etc don't have up their sleeve. Do you reckon people sitting on Ikea...

Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp

There's a snow ski that's very popular at the moment - the 4frnt Renegade. Most of the 4frnt line is made in Tunisia or somewhere, in some big factory that makes a tonne of skis for different companies (i.e. the China model). The Renegade is handmade by 4frnt's top sponsored athlete, Eric Hjorleifs...

fong there is only one surfing event in Australia with legally enforceable control over the surf zone and that's the Quiky Pro at Snapper...and that's only under strict guidelines.
